Democrats 'are good at discrediting'

The Democrat-led government is good at distorting information and discrediting others, convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's legal advisor Noppadon Pattama claimed on Monday.

"The government of the United Arab of Emirates is still treating Thaksin as usual and it does not give him any restrictions," Mr Noppadon said.

His comment came after Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the UAE government did not allow Thaksin to use the country as a base for his political activities.

"After Thaksin left Dubai, the Thai government then used this opportunity to spread the news about him being kicked out of the country when there's actually no problem between them.

"Don't panic with the news the government is trying to distort," Mr Noppadon said.

After the Democrats said Thaksin was likely staying in Cambodia or other Asian countries judging by the doorknob in a room where Thaksin was delivering a phone-in address recently, the legal advisor said the party's comment was ridiculous and groundless.

[color:red]Mr Noppadon further criticised the Democrats of sticking to the idea of 'being the first to lie would gain the upper hand'[/color]

If it was true -- which is an unknown at this point -- it couldn't even be said if he wasn't keeping his whereabouts a secret.

Anyway, you'd think at least one of the western media would have gone to check out the story in the UAE, find out if it's correct that he's been booted out. The statement by the German minister that he's not welcome there (after T said he was going there -- which makes it look like T lied about that) tends to make me think the UAE report might be credible, and that this here is just smoke being blown. (blame the embarrassment we inflicted on ourselves on our enemy kind of thing)

Nice thought. That kind of journalism doesn't happen anymore. ;)
