TheCorinthian
Porn is pretty legal in the US as long as it is above a certain age.
cavanami
Some months ago, Federal Courts ruled that the US Border Security was too severe in snooping around in peoples' PCs so they backed off some. Pretty much, when you are in the airport Immi/Custom areas, you are not really inside the USA and have zero rights. You can be refused admission to the USA just because one security agent doesn't like your hair style or whatever. Of course you can try to get a supervisor and maybe the supervisor will overrule the agent, but very uncomfortable, IMO.
Hugh_Hoy
They would need probable cause to impound a laptop. Never heard of the term "impound" in connection with Customs' "holding on" to property. The terms usually applied are "seized" or "detained". Electronic items may be seized or detained without probable case; search warrants are not required. It's a well established fact in practice and in law.
