gobbledonk
Freelancers pick up new things pretty fast, usually from one another. I took a GFE to a bar I'd frequented in Pattaya and she got on famously with a couple of the girls - the next night she was keen to go back to 'Fin-land bar'. Sure, they had a flag out the front and a bunch of fairly stoic looking Finns who kept to themselves, but the only place she would have come by the name of the owner's country was from the other girls. Hardly rocket science, but the brighter girls definitely have a handle on which currencies are bringing the best exchange rates at a given time. I doubt that anyone here enjoys playing the old 'Where you from ?' charades - I've got to the point where I just nod when they say 'Sydney ?'. HT is right - they dont particularly care where you come from as long as you come fast, and that gives us all more time to get back to the serious business of getting hammered. Julian2
Wrong . " Man Yeormany he good heart " is what you hear all over the place . The Lao girls used to say "Allamani" which I suspect is from the French. I can't recall them ever using the term chai dee in connection with it though. gobbledonk
I expect that the French have a few names for the Germans, several of which would make a Legionnaire blush. (yes, I know that the majority of the Legion are Germans - getting in before Flash does !)
Flashermac
Go to the National Museum of the PDR Lao and notice the big painitng of the French colonisers shooting Laos and stuffing their bodies into wells.

I can't recall them ever using the term chai dee in connection with it though. i used to have a ploy when pestered by ladies who i was not interested in and had no intentions of buying a drink. i would just say crap like 'bonjour senorita,avec-moi,cinq,ola' etc and the odd words of European words i had a knowledge of. the look of confusion on their faces made me smile as they walked away not having a clue what i was saying. Flashermac
Some tout approached me in Bangkok one day, blabbering in English. I replied to him in German. Turned out the fucker had studied in Germany and then I had an even harder time getting rid of him. Plus his German was better than mine.
gobbledonk
The German enclave in Pattaya is interesting - do the girls working those bars have to learn the language, just as they learn English in most of the other bars ? I assume they would, even when most Germans speak English if they need to.
Flashermac
I've met a few over the years who could speak sort of BG German. Invariably, they had spent some time in Germany with a guy.
