BANGKOK — In a surprise move that takes an active offensive stance against corruption allegations, Permanent Transport Secretary Supoth Sublom is now suing the men who robbed his house for criminal defamation.

“Mr Supoth has had his reputation damaged by the selfish criminal acts of these men, who revealed my client’s unusual wealth in an unflattering way by failing to successfully rob his house,†Supoth’s attorney said at a press conference.

According to the details of the lawsuit, the nine men who tried to rob Supoth on November 11 were derelict in their duties as petty low-life criminals, and that their incompetence and co-operation with police resulted in Mr Supoth’s career being damaged.

The men are being sued for Bt18 million, the same amount that was stolen and then seized by government anti-corruption investigators.

In a further development, the nine robbers are counter-suing Mr Supoth for defamation as well, alleging that his house was excessively protected against thieves, and that his implementation of sophisticated alarms caused them to undergo undue stress when the robbery was foiled.
