limbo
Except Kasikorn, all Thai banks that I know of, freeze a certain amount of your 'allowance', and you will only be allowed 80% of the 'deposit' as you credit. My Bank of Ayudhya, 40,000.-THB frozen and limit of cc is 32,000.-THB
cavanami
I got a card from Citibank, 150K Baht limit, which is a minimum acceptable. Kasikorn, they bitched about my signature not matching what is on my passport SCB, said no. Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya) never replied at all. Aeon, they gave me a card with a 50 K Baht limit, so I told them to keep it and cut the card up! YMMV
Mekong
SCB, said no. Which SCB Siam Commercial Bank or Standard Chartered Bank? My Siam Commercial was not a real issue, one just has to have funds available making it more like a debit card but it is accepted as a credit card. Standard Chartered offered me to much credit, I did not want 10,000,000 so I had to open a second account with 500,000 in it Personally I prefer HSBC, no longer in Thailand but it works the world over

cavanami
SCB, Siam Commercial Bank. I have CDs with plenty to cover any credit charges, but they said no. One of their requirements was to be under 65 years old, which I am, but shows their mentality My US credit cards have limits of $50K USD, so hello Thailand, wake up!!! limbo
I've also found that the way Thai banks deal with handing out credit cards to Westerners, is suspect, to say the elast. What can be the cause of this?
Mekong
Never question Thai mentality it will drive you insane in no time at all. My Siam Commercial card is a second card on the wifes account, now I earn at least 10 times more than her but iy had to be in her name, I just dont ask anymore. Standard Chartered were brilliant, I was like "NO I don't need that much credit" OK it's a British bank so not Thai. Hong Kong and Shanghai (HSBC) are the best, Oh another British Bank Bottom line is if you want a credit card in Thailand don't use a Thai bank , the more I think about it if you want to do anything in Thailand use a foreign company, I am getting pissed at banks and Cable TV and I have a Non-Imm O visa and work permit, my days of jumping through hoops are numbered, I have had enough of the shit and now look at alternatives. spirit_of_town_hall
When the business starts going to other banks they will realise they have to be more user friendly. How easy is it to open a Standard Chartered in BKK? STH
