Last Saturday, 20th July 2013, was the 40th Anniversary of Lee's untimely death.

Many here would have grown up in the midst of 'Lee mania' - I guess Flash may have been the only one in BKK in 1973 (?), but the scenes at his funeral in HK make it clear that he was the closest thing they had to Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga rolled into one. His movies sparked massive interest in all manner of martial arts and he has the kind of instant name recognition, even today, that eluded many of his generation despite their 'star power' at the time. I dont engage in the mindless 'could he beat The Rock in a fight' BS, and I have long since lost interest in sweating my butt off in a gym / kwoon / dojo / whatever, but I still think Lee had enormous on-screen presence. As much as I enjoy watching every action movie that comes down the pike, watching what Lee did in the late 60s/early 70s and comparing it to the 'bar-room brawl' stuff that dominated American movies, he was clearly in a class of his own.

I hope it's all cold beer and hot chicks wherever you are, Little Dragon. :)
