SpiceMan
Lets put this tax into perspective. Departure tax from London when flying to Bangkok is 8364 Baht.
Flashermac
So what is the average income in England versus the average income in Thailand? Plenty of Thais don't make 8,000 baht in a month.
Plainsdrifter
My somewhat paranoid take on these tax increases; the increases are needed to make up tor the reductions in taxes bought about by tax exemptions made to some favored tourists tour groups. Flashermac
I suspect it has more to do with the current government spending money much faster than it can make it. The clowns don't seem to realise the impression they are giving - one of milking the tourists every chance they get. With Burma opening up, the last thing Thailand needs to do is seem unwelcoming to foreign visitors. The actual amount of money is nothing to most travellers, but people do not take kindly to being used.
baa99
I wonder how much money those hospitals are making off of tourists with the double pricing.

Specialist
How is this going to affect people who bought and paid for their tickets before all this fun stuff hit the fan?
Flashermac
Lots of comments on the Bangkok Post about this, none of them very happy. It is seen correctly as nothing but gouging the tourists.
