The Army says it will use force against armed groups which use war weapons to kill innocent people and also warns of full-fledged retaliation if rhey turn their arms on the Army.

The reaction by Army Commander-in-chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha came as perpetrators attacked anti-government protesters today with M79 grenades and assault rifles at Democracy Monument, killing three people and wounding 20 others.

Army deputy spokesman Col Winthai Suvari said late today that the army chief issued a 7-point statement in responce to the lethal attack on innocent people in which many were killed and injured.

He said the army chief vowed support for the efforts of many groups of people whp are resorting to talks and peaceful channels to resolve the political crisis, though the effort might not achieve success in the near future because of arguments and conflicts and also an indication of renewed violence.

In response to the lethal attack last night, he said the army chief called on all who have no involvement in the protests to denounce those who resort to violence and attacked innocent people with war weapons.

Anyone who has information om the attack is requested to cooperate with the Army. Col Winthai said the Army chief was acting in a caution manner because of complications involved.

But he warned those people who continue to make damaging accusation against the Army, as a damaging statement is tantamount to dishonouring the Army, which is unacceptable.

The Army chief told the armed group to stop the violent attacks now, warning of military action to stop the violence.

If it does not cease and the situation develops into riots, the Army is ready to use force. If an armed group turns its weapon on the Army and continues attacking innocent people, it will face drastic and full-fledged military suppression.

Any damage inflicted on those using weapons against the military cannot demand compensation for their wrongdoings, the Army chief said in the statement.

This also applies to any group which tries to encircle military bases, adding they should give up such attempts

The protesters are saying the police won't do anything to protect them, and it certainly seems that way. Once again, the police didn't arrived until after the shooting ... which lasted 40 minutes or more! But Chalerm and Tarit are too busy trying to "capture" the protest leaders to pay attention to something as unimportant as attacks on unarmed people with weapons like military rifles and grenade launchers.

BTW who did the police arrested after M79 grenade attack launched from Lumpini Park (where the red shirts were) on the Sala Daeng BTS station in 2010? No one as far as I know. :hmmm:

"The Army says it will use force against armed groups which use war weapons to kill innocent people"

How can they, the assailants are all "Unknown". Ergo they have no names and addresses, or telephone numbers, or identities. I suppose the Army could just go out and shoot the first hundred people they don't like...
