Guest
http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/transport/430171/taxi-network-threatens-fare-hike-over-gas-prices Looks like there could be an increase in taxi fares, by 80,000 members of the Bangkok taxi cooperative who use LPG and NGV to power their vehicles

StoneSoup
Long overdue. I second that comment. Raising flag drop to 40 baht is a 14.3% increase, and that should not kill anyone. I usually tip taxis at least 20 baht. Cheers! SS
cavanami
The price of gas had gone up a long time ago. 40 Baht is a small increase but will help the taxi drivers.
Flashermac
Every taxi driver I've asked about a hike in the past few years has opposed it. They said they were afraid that raising the fare would cost them business, especially with the new BTS lines getting closer to completion.
radioman
Hmm, taxi driver economics. I've no time to do the research but would be interesting to note Thailand's neighbours approach to this. Compare relative taxi fares over the last 15 years in say Singapore, Malaysia, maybe Indonesia, Hong Kong, Philippines, possibly Cambodia. What does the market say?
