I just spoke to Ricky and the soft opening for Club One will be TONIGHT! There are a few rough edges, but they want to give it a go tonight. He told me to invite all the sanukers. Tomorrow it will be open from about 2pm to 2am. They have the booze and they have the ladies. In fact, on the latter, he said they may have too many. Unfortunately, the ST rooms are not quite finished yet, so take-out only, and, of course you can fool around with them on the premises. Ricky told me there should be a few impromptu shows tonight, and those of you who know Ricky, will know this should be, um, interesting. I am headed over there in a few hours. I did see a sign saying Number One Karoke/pool right beside Bumrungrad but no sign indicating "club one" anywhere. Is it before or after Bumrungrad. Left or right side. Sarisin Posted July 7, 2002 Author Report Share Posted July 7, 2002 I made it to the soft opening, and, out of the gate, I have to apologize for screwing up the name (or Ricky screwed it up when he first told me ). It is Number One Gentlemen's Club. The location is 220/8 Sukhumvit Soi 1. The telephone there is 02-655-6630. They are working on a website (probably not up yet) at www.numberonebangkok.com. Check it out later. My friend and I also had a slight problem finding the place and really just stumbled on to it. We walked down Soi 1. When you see La Buca's Italian restaurant on the left (walking towards Bumrungrad and away from Sukhumvit), you are almost there. The sign reads Number One and the windows will have a red glow. Plenty of parking on the street. As we entered, we realized it really was a 'soft' opening. Ricky and six girls, none very good looking. These turned out to be the staff - none of the showgirls had shown up yet. I should say that many, if not all of the showgirls currently work in some of BKK's finest gogo bars and they are waiting to 'give notice' to their current employers until they know Number One is ready to roll. That, my friends, looks to be the end of August. Oh, the place is open, and you can have a drink there any day from 2pm to 2am. They have plenty of booze. Just about all the drinks and beers are 95 baht and ladies' drinks are 80 baht. The downstairs looks very interesting. As you enter, there is a nice bar directly ahead. To your left is a lounge area with some nice sofas and tables. One pool table as well. There are several TVs which were showing porn when I was there. The second floor has a balcony where the showgirls will be performing for you. No nudity on the first floor. Anything goes on the second. There are two nice diddlin' rooms also on the second and a sectional sofa that will be the site of some wild shows. Oh, I forgot to mention on the first floor there are a half-dozen display cases. They will be hanging up outfits, lingerie, etc. behind them that you can choose for your lady (uniformguy, you reading this?). The reason the place will not open is that they are working on the ST rooms upstairs. They are not finished yet. They will initially have five, with another fifteen in the works. I spoke at length with Ricky and his partner, who by the way is the same gentleman who owns Candy Store and Bill's Beer Bar in CEP. They said they want this to be like Eden (toys, short-time rooms, anything goes ladies) without the lineups. You pick your lady at your leisure, or you can just enjoy your drink(s) and have a bit of fun with the ladies or watch the shows. No pressure to choose a girl to take upstairs and not hang around drinking. This is a strong plus IMO. Here's a minus: The price of STs. They will charge 2,000 baht per lady per hour. 4,000 baht for take out. I thought this was a bit high and a bit short (60 minutes vs. 90 at Eden). They already have a slick menu designed with all the prices, etc. They are negotiating with the aforementioned LaBuca's to have finger foods available at Number One. IMO, the key word that fits this place is 'Potential.' Ricky might not like me saying this (he will be joining the board here soon as a member he told me), but my advice is to go yourself and have a look, but not expect too much until the end of August. Yes, the place is a bit out of the way (although it is a very short walk from the Ploenchit BTS and NEP), but I think that is the idea. Ricky said he might have another soft opening the end of this month, but he hopes to have everything ready to roll come the end of August. He currently has 20 showgirls (these will be the ones available for the STs too) and they will have some interesting costumes to say the least. Well, that's my report. It is on the RIGHT side of Soi 1 just past La Buca Italian restaurant and before you get to Bumrungrad. I ran into Ricky today and he said he is now signed up on the Sanuk Board and reading. The chances of him posting soon though are slim as he has a hard time differentiating between a PC and a toaster. Good to have him on-board, though. Errata: I said the ladies' drinks in Number One were 80 baht, and I was 5 baht off. Ricky told me I should have written 85 baht. Still, a good deal.
