unit731
Just hit the wire. Microsoft will be offering free upgrade to Windows 10 operating system - when launched. Only available to users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 and 8.1. Interesting marketing concept. Will you go for it? And no, not you Apple users. Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8 ... Opinion-PCWorld-Jan 21, 2015
Flashermac
I doubt if they can even give it away.
Guest
The reason they are giving it away free, is just because they can't sell it, because if they could they would. Microsoft doesnt exactly have a great track record when it comes to updates not breaking things. After the unpopular windows 8, which was a complete disaster. I would be very wary on an upgrade and would want to know more, until then I will stick with windows
Palatkik
I've been running it on VMWare inside Win7 and it seems like something I'll be happy to upgrade to in future. Only trouble is the switchable graphics hardware on my laptop isn't compatible, so can only run it with Intel graphics set.

waerth
There are a range of great operating systems based on Unix that are for free. There is open office, and there are tons of other programs and operating systems and server systems that are for free and work great. Sometimes even better then their paid for counterparts.
