The navy has picked Chinese submarines costing 12 billion baht each to be commissioned in the force, a source on the procurement committee says.

The majority of the 17-strong committee voted to buy three Chinese submarines, saying it was the "best value for money".

Never mind that the Gulf is too shallow for submarines to safely operate!

I do wonder when I see this stuff, especially when you think that US and China both, could probably take out all of the regions subs (excepting perhaps Japan and Sth Korea) in 1 flyover of a few bombers.

It must be about prestige.

At least Laos isn't buying subs.

Laos is gonna build a railway for China to get to Thailand, at a cost of about 90% of GDP, and then being a Thane, thank China for the opportunity.

Then about 100 people in Laos will be rich beyond their wildest dreams and be able to buy six Lamborghinis instead of two, wives will have 25 Gucci handbags instead of 5, kids will abuse peasants twice as much.

Slightly off topic I know, but there is a guy in Vientiane, who bought a brand new Range Rover, not for driving, but to put next to his grand piano, in his mansion, because he likes the way it looks.

No thanks.

40-year old meat confiscated in China

Who doesn’t love a well-aged Porterhouse steak or an 18-month aged slice of prosciutto? Perhaps that’s what Chinese smugglers who were caught selling 40-year old frozen meat were thinking. Chinese officials found and confiscated 800 tons of contraband meat this week, and some of it dated back to the 1970s. The frozen meat that had been around since the end of the Vietnam War was headed towards restaurants, supermarkets and retailers.
