Terrorists in Thailand?

A classified police document that was labeled “Urgent†and “Secretâ€, indicating that ten ISIS terrorists entered Thailand in October with the intent of doing harm to Russians and other Westerners, was leaked to the media on Thursday night. Most senior police officials however, are saying “huh, what memo.â€

The memo that was sent to Thailand’s National Security Council by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) stated that ten members of the Islamic State had entered Thailand between the dates of October 15th and October 31st.

The leaked document further stated that four terrorists travelled to Pattaya, two went to Phuket, two remained in Bangkok, and two moved on to unknown destinations.

ISIS-Iraq-Attack.jpgIn the document, the FSB warned Thai authorities that the mission of the ISIS terrorists was to “disrupt Russian Interests in Thailand†in retaliation for the Russian air strikes made against Islamic State targets in Syria.

The FSB also urged that Thai authorities increase security in all of the Kingdom’s major tourist destinations. The FSB also warned that the threat also extended to other foreign nationals, whose countries were also attacking Islamic State targets in Syria and probably anybody else who happens to be standing next to them.

When asked by the press about the document, a number of high ranking police officials all but said “what documentâ€, with most stating that the first time they’d seen that particular internal police memo was when the media released it to the public. In other words, they knew very little about both the recent arrival of the alleged Islamic terrorists, as well as the document!

When asked, the commander of the Pattaya Police Station, Police Colonel Sukthat Pumpanmuang said “that the Special Branch Police did not send the warning to his station,†and that he “only found out about the memo from reports in the media.â€

Police Colonel Sukthat also stated that “we have no further information than what is in the letter†and that “the report about ISIS terrorists on the loose in Thailand, “could be just rumor.â€

When asked what steps the police were taking to increase Pattaya’s security, he replied, “We are already operating at the highest security.†In response to the same question from another reporter the Colonel answered, “We’re taking additional security measures in response.â€

Pretty much the same thing happened in Phuket, which like Pattaya is another well know destination for Russian and Western tourists. When that city’s acting police commander was asked about the memo, all he said was that “he had no information about the warning.â€

Even the recently appointed Deputy Commander of the special Thai police intelligence unit, the Special Branch Police, and the organization that actually issued the memo said that he “wasn’t aware of the memo because it was signed by another officer before he took up the post.â€

In response to Thai law enforcement’s apparent ignorance in regard to both the memo and the alleged arrival of terrorists to Thailand, a spokesperson for the National Counter Insurgency Agency said that the so called memo released by the press had not yet been authenticated by the Special Branch Police.

Then a Major General of the Internal Security Operation Command said that Thailand “is not an enemy of any country.†He then sternly warned the Thai media to be cautious when reporting about the leaked memo.

In the meantime, while all of this “saving face†is going on does anybody know the whereabouts of the ten terrorists?
