The operators of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) have placed a bizarre advertisement in a Malaysian newspaper seeking the owners of three Boeing 747s apparently abandoned there.

" If you fail to collect the aircraft within 14 days of the date of this notice, we reserve the right to sell or otherwise dispose of the aircraft " under Malaysian regulations, said the ad which ran in Monday's edition of The Star.

The notice was addressed to the "untraceable owner" of the planes.

" So can anyone just claim them and offer to sell them instead ? "

Well the orginal owners don't want them, no one is claiming them, and they don't know who the owners are .... So I suppose in theory you could, they would want outstanding airport charges paid up front no doubt, and the money would help to avoid difficult questions on ownership. .. A bank would advance the money for this, once they know you are the accepted owner with the intention to sell. As the secondhand and even scrap value of all three planes together would run into countless millions.

If you put together a plan let me know ..... :)

There's more to that 747 story.

There's a startup cargo airline, that is working to get their operating certificate. They claim to have purchased the airplanes 6 months ago, and have documentation to prove it, but the airport board refuses to accept their documentation.

There are commentators out there claiming that this is a shakedown by the airport board.
