How do I stop this happening?

Sometimes when you go on to a web site you get trapped, ie you cannot press back to get out or indeed do anything.

 

 

 

This is hugely annoying, can I do something to get out

are these porn related sites? I know only about porn sites where it happens sometimes. For me only solution--- switch off the computer and restart it again.

If you are using IE, try this:

 

 

 

To the right of the "Back" button there is a tiny "down arrow". Click it. It will show your most-recently-viewed pages. Select a page that you viewed previous to the offending page. It will (should) leap-frog back.

hi Jp1, yes it sometimes happens on porn sites but I have had it happen many times on non porn sites, but yes on porn sites it is quite a common occurence.

I think what he may be talking about is the orignal page reloading once you hit the back button, not a new window. If you click the back button quickly 2 or 3 times as if you were opening a program it will usually get you past the orignal page.

you might have some spyware on there, they tend to do funny things to IE and pop-up crap when you dont want it.

 

try downloading lavasoft's adware to scan your system and remove any unwanted nasties (you'll be surprised what it finds in there):

If you are running XP, and it's handy for these situations, just press ctl-alt-del once only to bring up the task-manager and then close the non-responding or offensive browser windows down - sometimes you will see lots of browser windows that were opened. Those dodgy sites with those browser windows by the millions often include a script that will open more windows when you close certain browser pages down - very annoying and hard to defeat, often just terminating the browser and starting again is the only real solution.
