Brink15
Thankfully my wife is from central Thailand and is not overly fond of Isaan dishes. I have eaten Pla La, kapi, poo dorng, etc. and despise each and everyone of them. I do, however like Yum nem , kaeng Thai pla, and Goong ten, popular in the South. Pescator
<I have eaten Pla La, kapi, poo dorng, etc. and despise each and everyone of them. > I`ll second that. The problem with this stuff is that if you have been eating it with just about any meal for 20 years or so. Then you can hardly go without it. It seems to be sort of addicitive or mayby just (bad) habit. It is the same with chili. And I won`t even begin to talk about what it does to your breath Hua Nguu
Brink15
Funny thing is when I lived there I couldn't get enough chili and couldn't get a Thai cook to believe I could eat it. Many sessions of prik kee noo chow fests with laarb or yums. Now I can handle one or two fresh chilies over a meal but beyond that and I'm in pain. But even in my current wuss state I can eat food that would make most of my friends cry. Everything is relative.
