I think that the problem with this topic is that people are getting hung up on one relatively small area of Cambodia and that this is distracting some from the obvious attractions of general Tourism and Adult Sanuk in Cambodia. I imagine that this kind of attention to the China Town area of Bangkok would also be unwelcome. Having been to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap etc, I often feel that I'm branded as one who'd happily promote the likes of K11 etc. I don't and wont. But back to business. What future posters might like to talk about in relation to Cambodia, could be the Adult nightlife, Angkor Wat temples and the like. I only frequented the adult section of the street but even that is questionable as to the 'real' ages..........I won't be going back! As someone who has never even set foot in Cambodia, I freely admit that I base a lot of my opinions on the documentaries I've seen and what I've read in the travel reports on the board. I may also be guilty of taking the moral high ground once too often on some issues : I recognise a certain amount of hypocrisy in that stance. If I believed everything the other board members told me about China, I wouldnt be getting on a plane in seven days time. I watched the Foreign Correspondant show, it loooked pretty grim & not my idea of sanuk. I have thought about what i would do in Cambo in the past, & now again, I don't think I would go to K11, it just ain't my scene, I may go to just have a look & confirm my thoughts. I'm sure you can meet lots of nice girls that you don't have to shag in broothels in muddy seedy streets of woe. But as I said, I speeketh from the asshole! Hey! I do that too! In fact, I first went to look at K11 because I met a rather sweet beautiful girl on the boat going to Siem Reap. She was, with a few other Vietnamese girls, being escorted there by some Japanese men. I was alone, sitting just across when, ignoring her hosts, she took it upon herself to plump down next to me, kindly offering me food and trying to communicate. We had no language in common but, with a bit of inventive drawing, we got somewhere. Names, ages, etc - easy. Later, I tried to ask where she lived by drawing a house and pointing to her. She took my pen and put a number "12" just above the door. Confused for a minute, I asked "12 where? Phnom Penh? What street?"... Then, dimly remembering hearing about this notorious area, I worked it out. When I got back, I went to see for myself. As I said in answer to the questions before, the women, though young, are mostly of adult ages in that 16 is the usual age of consent in most countries, although the question of bonded labour in these places is another matter altogether.. If this thread takes a turn towards the other attractions in Cambodia, I'll leave it open. If we stay on the current theme, even though the posts are from the right side of the argument, the thread will be closed. Please remember Regional Sanuk is what we're after here. Sanuk is generally accepted as consenting adults. Posts about other forms of activity, specifically underage and indentured will draw the usual response.
