visa choices

Recommended Posts

I have been given two choices for obtaining a one year resident visa.

I am under 50yrs old so dont qualify for a retirement visa.

1. deposit 3 million baht in Thai bank. If I do this can I take out the funds after visa is issued.

2. Pay 50000 baht to chinese in Thailand who get the visa issued thru thai government/police. Is this a valid choice and how would I know if its a phony visa or not?

Is this a dangerous way to proceed?

there is no such thing as a one year resident visa, i guess you mean a one year nonimmigration visa. and going the phony way is very dangerous indeed.

a friend has used those kind of services recently for one year and found then out that all the stamps in his passport were fake. it cost him a shitload of money to get that corrected.

immigration is computerised now.

very unadvisable.

why don't you just go for the visa runs?

1. No. The deal is to put the money in a 1 year fixed deposit so you can't take it out as soon as you get the visa. You can however invest the money rather than deposit it and they count the purchase of a condo as an investment.

2.Yes. Dangerous way to proceed. It sounds very dodgy.

Who is giving you these choices by the way? I ask because I've not heard of the 3 million baht deposit option in a while, I had thought it's gone to 10 mil but can't find anyone to confirm that.

Are you in LOS at the moment? Used to be that to get the 1 year non imm by deposit you have to be in the country and have entered on a non imm B.

Anyone have any news on what the current situation is?

My understanding is if you came in on a tourist visa or 30 (edited to correct days TH) day stamp, you cannot convert to any other type visa. We have had to send several people, including dependents, out of country to get non-imm visas because of this.

I too have heard of people getting fake stamps in passport. To me, it is not worth the risk at all. There are too many legal ways to stay long term to take the chance.

I am sure that a certain member (and advertiser) will be happy to point him in the correct direction.

"My understanding is if you came in on a tourist visa or 300 day stamp, you cannot convert to any other type visa."

If you mean 30 day stamp. Correct. But if you come in on a 90 day non imm B you can convert to a retirement, investment or work visa and I dare say a non imm O.

Don't know about a 30 day non imm B as it seems to take them more than 3 months to sort out the application.

Re: 3mil baht investment - Was told this by a company in Taiwan specialising in Thailand immigration issues for Taiwanese.

Re: 50000baht to chinese - contacts I know in BKK thru Taiwanese contacts- They get you a legal non-immigrant visa for one year with no work permit. Paperwork filed is same as

normal but unconditionally approved. Apparently there is a quota for this each year for officials.

I want to bring my wife and 2 babies to Thailand and live for a year - Do not need work permit. Me and 2 babies are US citizen but wife is Taiwanese.

If I do the visa run thing, Do the US citizen babies need to go also. Any advise on the best way to proceed?

Hope this helps

You need a non immigrant visa to get a work permit, you cannot get a work permit if you enter on a tourist visa. Anyway if you are wanting to stay for a while I was considering this visa....

III. TEMPORY PERMIT FOR ONE-YEAR (Non-Immigrant Visa for One-Year)

To motivate more foreigners to stay in Thailand, Thai authorities is in the process of revising the regulation for easing foreigner to temporarily longer stay in Thailand as follows ;

1. Alien who bring in currency into Thailand for more than 3 million baht will be granted temporary certificate of residence for one year

On the 30th September B.E. 2541 (A.D. 1998), the Office of Immigration Bureau has issued its announcement to facilitate foreigners who bring in foreign currencies amounting to three million baht to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand for the period of one year at the time. This announcement is aimed at promoting the government's policy to attract foreign investors to enter the Kingdom.

How to qualify for this type of visa ?

The applicant must have evidence showing that three million baht has been transferred in his/her name to any bank in Thailand.

The transfer of money in (1) must have the following objectives:

fixed deposit in any government bank

purchase of Government bonds or State Enterprise bonds

purchase of a condominium from the owner of a condominium project which is registered with the Land Department.

other investments which the Office of Immigration Bureau considers beneficial to the country. Applicants who are advised to invest in one of the said investment can also invest their capital in one or other objectives but the total amount of investment should not be less than three million baht.

Prior to entering the country, applicants must have an appropriate kind of visa from a Thai Consulate abroad.

Office of Immigration Bureau reserves the right to terminate the duration to stay in the Kingdom of the foreign investors in the program if they fail to inform the Office of Immigration Bureau in advance of the change of their investment activities.

if you do the visa run thing your babies will also have to go regardless of nationality.

i would strongly advise you against that "taiwanese connection", the amount of shit you can get yourself into is just not worth it. you can even end up in the immigration prison including your babies.

i do know people who had to leave thailand on a fake passport because the were getting fake stamps from those services and did not have the money to clear that up.

The information you posted is as I was given it by immigration but I had to extract it from them as they did not seem willing to volunteer it.

I have read somewhere though that the requirement is now 10 million but I've not been able to get any confirmation of that.

I also read recently that the retirement age is now 50 but I can't find the source of my (mis?)information.

Would be good if someone out there could confirm these things for sure one way or the other.
