pattaya127
a mozart arrangement in a composition of handel? they lived at different times -------------------------------------- Up until the mid-20th century, it was common practice to either "better" earlier compositions, bringing them to the earring tastes of the new generation of listeners, or simply impose one's musical taste to even great geniuses of the past. It took great conductors as Toscanini, Weingartner, Stokowsky and the likes to respect and try to play only what the composer wrote, with still much differences in how the music was interpreted. But even Toscanini, was not above doubling the cello lines in Beethoven's symphonies, which is ok, if it's to bring out the genius of a piece rather than adding up one's tastes. Stokowsky was very famous for transcribing Bach's organ works into orchestral pieces, actually.
