shotover Posted December 17, 2002 Report Share Posted December 17, 2002 Given some recent threads and questions about a holiday budget in Thailand, I thought I would throw in a post summarizing my costs and daily financial transactions while in Thailand last month. I only take 2 trips a year to Thailand, so I tend to spend more than I would (or could) if I stayed for longer periods. Plan: Spend about $100 per day for 25 day visit (Hotels, sanuk, meals, gifts, everything). Flight from USA paid with FF miles. Summary: Arrived in Bkk with about 1,500 baht. Withdrew about 196,300 baht for 25 day stay at an average of about 42.8 baht per USD. Left Bkk with about 3,500 baht. Spent about $4,500 USD, or about $2,000 USD over my budget. Breakdown of major expenses (about 100,000 baht): > 27,700 baht for hotels: >> 24,000 baht for 22 nights at the Grand President Hotel >> 2,550 baht for 3 nights at the Nana Hotel. >> 700 baht for 2 nights in Ubon Hotel. >> 450 baht for 1 night in Kanchanaburi guesthouse. > 12,300 baht paid for 8 LT nights with different ladies before meeting regular BG. > 1,600 baht paid for 3 barfines during the first 8 nights. > 11,700 baht for transportation to and around Ubon, Ayutthaya, and Kanchanaburi. > 8,000 baht for 15 nights of bar fines with regular BG. > 26,000 baht for 15 nights with regular BG. > 6,500 baht for gifts and food for village family > 940 baht for my only ST including 2 hours at the PB hotel > 5,000 baht for dentist and clinic visits This means I pissed away about 100,000 baht (or about $85 USD per day) on bar expenses, family gifts (maybe 15,000 baht), food, and other expenses. Details of my daily transactions: Day 1; Withdrew 9,900 baht at airport. Day 2; Withdrew 10,300 baht; Paid 2,550 baht for 3 nights at Nana Hotel. Day 3; Withdrew 8,900 baht; Paid 3,300 baht for LT 2 days with Grace Hotel Lady. Day 4; Withdrew 6,900 baht; Paid 5,000 baht for Grand President Hotel (1,086 per night). Day 5; Withdrew 7,900 baht; Paid 3,600 baht for LT + BF 2 days (NEP dancer). Day 6; Withdrew 7,900 baht; Paid 1,900 baht for LT + BF 1 day (Beer bar girl). Day 7 Withdrew 0 baht; Paid 1,500 baht for LT 1 night (Thermae stunner). Day 8 Withdrew 9,900 baht; Paid 2,100 baht for LT + BF (NEP Dek Serve). Day 9 Withdrew 0 baht; Paid 1,500 baht for LT 1 night with Grace Hotel Lady. Day 10 Withdrew 16,800 baht; Paid 8,000 baht for LT BF for regular BG. Day 11 Withdrew 0 baht; Paid 5,000 baht to regular BG. Day 12 Withdrew 9,900 baht. Day 13 Withdrew 9,900 baht; Paid 7,000 baht to GP Hotel. Day 14 Withdrew 9,900 baht. Day 15 Withdrew 9,900 baht; Paid 2,400 baht for trip to Ayutthaya with regular BG. Day 16 Withdrew 9,900 baht; Paid 8,000 baht for 2 RT air tickets to Ubon. Day 17 Withdrew 8,900 baht; Paid 5,000 baht to regular BG plus 3500 baht for stereo to take to family. Day 18 Withdrew 0 baht; Paid 2,000 baht for party supplies, picnic, and truck in village. Day 19 Withdrew 13,900 baht; Paid 700 baht for 2 nights in Ubon Hotel + 1,000 baht groceries for regular BG family in village. Day 20 Withdrew 0 baht; Paid 8,000 baht to regular BG + 8,000 baht to GP Hotel. Day 21 Withdrew 7,900 baht. Day 22 Withdrew 9,900 baht; Paid 2,000 baht for 2 days and 1 night in Kanchanaburi with regular BG. Day 23 Withdrew 19,800 baht; Paid 940 baht for Thermae (non-stunner) ST at the PB Hotel. Guest Posted December 17, 2002 Report Share Posted December 17, 2002 Wow. amazing how it can add up. If all goes well and I can get my ticket (on waiting list) I will be spending new years in BKK. I am on much more of a budget this time so your numbers really threw me. But upon closer examination I realized that everyone is different. And they spend in differnt ways. For one I don't drink. Second I have never paid a gogo bar fine. I am either ST. or temp girlfriend oriented. I stay in modest places when outside BKK. I eat almost totaly local. So with these differences I spend about half of what you did. I am not saying you wasted money just that everyone can afford to come to BKK. I am sure there are those that are amazed that you spent so little, and of course there are those that think I spend too much. You just gotta love that place. shotover Posted December 17, 2002 Author Report Share Posted December 17, 2002 Davegas, Good perspective on spending money. My expenditures really went up once I connected with my regular BG. I was burning candles at both ends with bar-hopping with other guys in the evenings, then entertaining her in the daytime and late at night. I also tended to eat at nicer and more expensive restaurants with the regular BG than with other ladies I stayed with for one or two nights only. It is interesting to be able to make a comparison and have a frame of reference for one's own trip expense. Based upon my 2 prior trips to LOS and my plans for the trip which will begin in several days, my daily expense should be in line with yours. Your spending works out at 7700 baht per day. My daily budget for a 7 day trip (4 nights Bangkok/3 nights Pattaya) would be: hotel (GP and Eastiny Hotel) 1100 baht LT ladies (BK = freelancers: bar girls = Pattaya) 1370 baht spend (food, booze and taxi transfers etc) 2700 baht Total = 5170 baht per day, say 5200 baht per day.
