Flashermac
I'm sure Drummond has both a journalist's visa and a WP as a journalist. He lives here and is well known. p.s. And just as likely, the Brit rag told him to dig up some dirt of the manager. He was doing his job, whether we agree with it or not.
ranma500
I met and had a few drinks with Andrew Drummond. As I understand it, he is the regional reporter for all the Murdoch papers including The Times, The Sun, and News of the World. He has been here for years. When I met him a while back, he was chasing Gary Glitter around Asia. I think that the truth is he's just a guy making a living. Many of the stories he writes are good solid informational stories, but my guess is that if you are going to make a living in such a way, the News of the World is not going to print good solid informational stories. It's all very well to blame the reporters, but the true perpetrators of these invasions of privacy are the British public who clamour to buy the News of the World which is the best selling British newspaper - 3.5 million copies a week. At the time I met Andrew Drummond I was rather drunk, but I would welcome the opportunity to meet him again. I'm sure he has a hell of a lot of interesting stories. And I'd love to ask him about how he feels about the seedier aspect of his job.
chuckwoww
If Drummond wasn't doing it somebody else would be. The market for that kind of stuff is huge. Look at the media frenzy over Gary Glitter. The public couldn't get enough of it. I know that doesn't help Mekong's friend much but it's hardly Drummond's fault. pe7e
Whose's Gary Glitter? Where have you been for the last year, the moon? Gary Glitter, AKA Paul Gadd, is an ageing, has-been, 70's pop star with unnatural attraction to young children, currently in jail in Vietnam after being outed by the press. He originally 'shot himself in the foot' in the UK by taking a computer into PC World for repair, unfortunatly it was full of child porn, After he got out of jail he was hounded out of the country, he's also been chucked out of both Thailand and Cambo for his 'activities', got what he deserved if you ask me. simie
Ramna500, how about journalistic integrity? if Drummond stuck to writing genuine pieces for the likes of the Sunday Times etc people would'nt have much of a problem with him. But he goes out of his way to dig up the dirt on perfectly decent people in the case of the football manager in question. He then enhances the story a bit for the benefit of the morons back in the UK who buy rags like the News of the World. These people have no comprehension of life in south east Asia and it show the victim of press intrusion in the worst possible light. Ok in the case of Gray Glitter i doubt any of us have much sympathy for him as his actions go well over the line. I also accept your point about people buying this garbage but unfortunately in the UK as in most countries there are a large number of people who's IQ is the same as their shoe size. Simie.
