A View From the Aged

[color:red]Being called grandpa reminds me of this.....[/color]I am 43 now. Probably around 5 years or so ago, I was at the supermarket with my oldest son, around 6 at the time. The check-out lady asked him if he was happy to go around with grandpa for the day. Now, at 38, I thought I could pass for early 30's maybe even younger. My hair hadn't started turning gray yet and I wasn't as tubby as I am right now. Anyways, I thought relatively quickly and said something like, "He does like to but grandpa lives in another state", something along those lines. I don't know if she was embarassed more or me.

 

 

 

Not too long ago me and my wife stopped at the KFC in Bensen, Arizona. It is one of the few KFCs that has a buffet.

 

We ordered two buffets. Later, I looked at the receipt. Some how the clerk [color:red]put me down for a senior meal and my wife got the child's meal[/color].

 

No problem.

I enjoy being a grandad. Must admit I wasn't crazy about being called Papa by bar girls but it seemed to be well meant.

Not sure if any of you have seen interviews with any of the surviving servicemen from WWII, but I cannot believe the difference between many of the Yanks (fit for their age, tanned, articulate) and the majority of Aussie/Brits from the same era (imagine Frank from 'Shameless' in another 50 years..).

 

I dont know if the latter simply lived harder lives, but many of them are in wheelchairs and their faculties have deserted them - sure, we all know the odd sprightly oldster, but age impacts different people in different ways. Say what you will about Hef, but the guy is still able to maintain the facade of the whole 'playboy mansion' thing he kicked off in the early 60s - here in Oz, we have people in Aged Care homes at 60 who are completely shot, and the powers that be are warning of a 'dementia epidemic'.

 

Where I'm trying to go with this, OP, is that you should be happy that you can still get on a plane and fly to Bangkok : your desirability in the eyes of an Isaan girl who has two kids and no other marketable skill really shouldnt be an issue. I appreciate that you felt the need to remind us that it wont always be a smorgasbord, but thats why God invented tall buildings in Pattaya. I plan to die middle-aged and leave a mediocre-looking corpse

IME, it is how you take care of yourself in your 30's and 40's. Keep fit and trim and your 50's will be good. If you are good in your 50's work to stay that way cuz your 60's will be tough, no room for error!

If you are fit and trim in your 60's, controlling the food and booze, you can be enjoying the ladies without using viagra (or other) helpers!!

From what I've seen, the older yank lads do seem to take care of themselves better. Both of my grandfathers (still alive and pushing 90 now) are quite fit for their age (apart from the odd brush with the big C and other not uncommon illnesses for old blokes) and I put that down to the fact they always played golf and/or bowls. I know it aint gridiron but it kept their minds and bodies active right up until now. Neither of them play as much as they used to, but they are doing well IMO, much better than other lads in their own age group.

 

When I was visiting the states, there were a LOT on 50+ guys (not saying 50's old but you wouldn't see it here) and even guys who looked 70+ in the gyms, jogging etc. By contast in the gyms here (Oz) at 36 years young (tomorrow) I feel like an old bloke. When I lived in the UK I don't think I saw a gym (but I didn't exactly look for them either) and the pubs were full of old blokes, and they didn't look as healthy as their American counterparts..

I was trying to remember without much success what my view was of people in their 40s when I was still a teenager, perhaps like the person he ran into at the fast food joint......I don't think I could even guess the ages.......

for what it's worth I may tell you that I am only a very few years younger than you and I am having the time of my life , starting maybe 10 years ago. It has never been better for a variety of reasons , one of them certainly being the existence of the Kingdom of Siam with it's assorted advantages . It all depends how you feel and what you do to support yourself being in good shape . Drinking and eating too mut no good . Exercise and occasional cigar velly good .

 

I don't think I am particularly handsome or the incarnation of male beauty but I am getting perfectly along with all sorts of ladies I assure you .
