Seven anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leaders will give in to the police on Wednesday afternoon, Opposition chief whip Witthaya Buranasiri said.

Mr Witthaya said some of them included Jatuporn Prompan, Natthawut Saikua, Weng Tojirakarn, Suporn Attawong, Korkaew Phikulthong and Yosvaris Chuklom.

Senator Lertrat Ratanavanich said UDD leader and Puea Thai Party MP Jatuporn had contacted opposition chief whip Witthaya as he wanted to surrender to the police at 1.30pm today.

He said a group of Puea Thai MPs will travel to the Royal Thai Police headquarters to witness the surrender.

"I believe other UDD core members, besides Mr Jatuporn, will turn themselves in to the police as well," he added.

20 red guards arrested

11:40am

Government troops on Wednesday morning arrested 20 weapons carrying guards of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, according to a source at the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES).

The source said the guards, who were armed with war weapons and petrol bombs, were being detained at Kian Nguan building on Witthayu Road near Sarasin intersection.

The red guards were arrested after government troops broke through the UDD barricade at Sala Daeng intersection and advanced toward Sarasin intersection on Ratchadamri road.

Clashes were reported to have taken place in the Sala Daeng and Sarasin areas.

One red shirt was shot dead and many others wounded at Sarasin intersection. The wounded were admitted to nearby Chulalongkorn Hospital and Police General.

Yes, how quickly things change

Asoke intersection attacked and on fire (by tires) and now moving towards under the station (as the photo shows).

I was able to drive from Sukhumvit (Soi 18) via Asoke to Ratchadapisek, but heading into Sukhumvit is now blocked.

But police on the scene - looks like they will let the fire burn out and then remove it.

Reds raid Udon, Khon Kaen city halls

1:16pm

Thousands of red shirts in Khon Kaen and Udon Thani raided the city halls to show dissatisfaction over the government's crackdown on United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship protesters in Bangkok, according to television reports.

In Khon Kaen, more than 1,000 red shirts broke through a cordon of police and administrative officials at the main gate of the city hall.

They brought with them car tyres and fuel and threatened to set fire on the city hall if the government did not respond to their demand for it to dissolve the House of Representatives.

In Udon Thani, more than 5,000 red shirts broke through barricades and a cordon of police, soldiers, and volunteers and entered the city hall.

How can the police let these idiots unload the tires and set afire and then even get away and return? This should take a few minutes and the police has guns.

This is a scandal and disgrace for the BIB. Only thing they are good at are collecting bribes and fines.

Getting very close to the point when the army need to take over. This cannot be allowed to go on.

Yes a coup is what I mean the alternative is looking like a civil war.

It will need credence at the highest level!

But it maybe too late but the army would have to say they will stabilize the situation then call elections
