  1. Hello Ne Win of Thailand! Thirty years from now, 'banana republic' may well be a compliment for Thailand - like Myanmar, going from the most promising status in the region, to a superstitious dictatorship...
  2. Good point - the combined Thai-ness and potential to win a match or two was compelling, but celebrity may have gone to their heads... Who sponsored the dental work they all have, I wonder? And just out of curiosity, do any of them have farang girlfriends?

    Ebola Lockdown

Probably an independent outbreak of the sloth-transmitted "Aussie" strand...

    Ebola Lockdown

If I'm ever caught up in an Ebola lockdown, I pray that it will be in Lolita's Bangkok...
  5. ... and won't buy the book either, I assume! Just a pitch for a few bucks before a more conclusive answer is finally obtained, there's money to be made on the back of every tragedy...
  6. To Thailand? Never, in my experience of 100 or so entries.
  7. "However, the 'sniff-test' for semen is of questionable reliability, as many foreign tourist may also have sampled fish sauce during their holiday..." When will someone tell the cops that either they shut the hell up, or get fired? I can't believe they just gossip and gossip like a bunch of market ladies, when the case has reached the level of attention that it has... Unbelievable.
  8. Is that my excuse this time around? So be it -- I'll grasp at any straw for another excuse for a trip... 24 days to go...
  9. Certainly, there aren't enough NGOs and embassy funds to send home ALL the German buggers, are there?! Ah, I see - beggars, it's German beggars being sent home. The buggers can stay and buy their own tickets...
  10. Been many times - terrible service - no matter when you request a wake-up call, they always role me out of bed just two hours after arrival!
  11. Yeah, me too. I bet that's not even really his leg!
  12. Videotape is Chalerm's kryptonite - remember the Club Twenty camera?
  13. They should just ask for a Burmese volunteer, promise him the money when he gets out of prison (...) and be done with it. This intense focus on getting "the right guys" is delaying the goal of getting "some guys" for the crime...
  14. Was gonna watch the video, but just my luck, it's blocked in Syria... Who woulda guessed?!
  15. They may not hurt you, but they probably hurt your mother, right?
  16. But back to volleyball! Not just beach volleyball deserves the attention - I'm in love with the current Thai women's volleyball team, fortunately they seem to be on TV quite often this year and last (often losing, regrettably, to many powerhouse teams, but looking absolutely charming and oh-so-Thai in doing so - one of the few national highlights of light, a team that is clearly having fun playing their game and exhibiting Thai ethics of friendliness, team play, and good spirit - love these girls!) 17. Dude, cut those toenails man!
  18. Speaking of incompetence... THEY are INcapable, THEY are INcapable... And I wasn't even (very) drunk when I posted...
  19. The worry with Prayuth is that depending on what he had for dinner on Thursday, his mood on Friday, he could come up with virtually any random idea for his Friday night talk... and next thing you know, it's law! Anyone remember when Ne Win one day switched the Burmese currency from 50 and 100 kyat notes, to the bizarre 45 and 90 kyat note system that they used for years? Let's hope Prayuth's lucky number is not 9, like Ne Win, (4+5 = 9, 9 x 5 = 45, 9 +0 = 9, 9 x 10 = 90...) so Thailand doesn't go through the same madness that can result from the whims of an unqualified individual dictating law and economy...
  20. Incompetent means there are capable of doing their job. Manipulating evidence to implicate a particular individual is criminality, not just incompetence...
  21. There are 800 anti-terror police in Sydney and Brisbane? No wonder there haven't been big events since the Bali bombings, the anti-terror units must be gigantic!
  22. Ah, now we have common ground on this stuff - absolutely: sneaky-eyed, perfidious, pilfering bull in the China shop.
  23. But isn't what's going on right now the ultimate fiddle? When the law is martial, sure, you don't need to do anything 'extra-legal' because the whole concept of meaningful law is gone. Everyone on that list benefits to greater or lesser degrees on a political patronage system that is right now being enforced through use of the military, because it was being threatened by repeated democratic exercises. Just becomes some one is "populist" hardly means they're doing something wrong, and if you can last as a populist for over a decade of elections, it can't be all bad... Anyway... we all have a right to express our opinion, I suppose - unless we're Thai, I mean.
