  1. Yes, certainly a scam, I did speak to two people at ASIS and they were very nice about it but made clear it is certainly a scam. The date on that webpage is a short time after I'd spoken to them I recall. I saw a document similar to the one you posted here above, could have been identical but I don't recall a sum mentioned at that time. US$970 for a visa processing fee sounds plenty steep. Would think that with a bank, branch, account name and number it should be a simple step on to locate at least one involved.
  2. Hmm, nothing like the old Very clean, very new and considerably smaller, really just a single open fronted shop unit on the Suk road side of the Holiday Inn. There's little evidence of the old place at all apart from the name. Prices are up, but they have draught beer now, Heineken, Tiger,Chang, Singha and something else, 90 baht small and 120 large if I remember right. We had a few beers and bought a couple for the girls working there then left. Didn't see any evidence of what would have been a typical Denny's night.
  3. A lot of these soldiers were hired from elsewhere, and quite a few press ganged. Though I could never have put it the way this guy has I recall at school learning only too well that English imperialism that endured for so many centuries had a lot of blood on its hands. I don't recall it being particularly glorified and I don't know anyone who thought empire was good.
  4. At Denny's new bar and just heard this so looked here. They must have known I was Kandinsky today.
  5. My son contracted Rotavirus some years ago and was hospitalised for about a week. The doctor commented that had we tried to treat him at home as just having an upset tummy there was a real possibility of long term health issues and death is not completely unknown! I said at the time that I though he'd got it from drinking dodgy water at school but no one would entertain that thought even though there were a few other kids sick at the same time
  6. Here's one subsidy that might be on the way out the door, http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/transport/414590/junta-ends-benefits-for-thai-board
  7. Where can I get me some haggis powder?
  8. "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed" Turn and run! Nothing can stop them, Around every river and canal their power is growing. Stamp them out! We must destroy them, They infiltrate each city with their thick dark warning odour. They are invincible, They seem immune to all our herbicidal battering. Long ago in the Russian hills, A Victorian explorer found the regal Hogweed by a marsh, He captured it and brought it home. Botanical creature stirs, seeking revenge. Royal beast did not forget. He came home to London, And made a present of the Hogweed to the Royal Gardens at Kew. Waste no time! They are approaching. Hurry now, we must protect ourselves and find some shelter Strike by night! They are defenceless. They all need the sun to photosensitize their venom. Still they're invincible, Still they're immune to all our herbicidal battering. Fashionable country gentlemen had some cultivated wild gardens, In which they innocently planted the Giant Hogweed throughout the land. Botanical creature stirs, seeking revenge. Royal beast did not forget. Soon they escaped, spreading their seed, Preparing for an onslaught, threatening the human race. The Dance Of The Giant Hogweed Mighty Hogweed is avenged. Human bodies soon will know our anger. Kill them with your Hogweed hairs HERACLEUM MANTEGAZZIANI Giant Hogweed lives - ADVANCE -
  9. Not yet been but will be checking it out this Friday evening
  10. Rik Mayall, 56. Just heard on the BBC news, RIP you funny b'stard.
  11. Not fat maybe, but not a beauty queen either. She may be a great person but that's not the end of a beauty contest and whilst beauty itself might be subjective, I wouldn't classify either of the two above as particularly beautiful, faced with a competition that would showcase what the rest of the world considers beautiful the one on the left would, I think, be seen very much as the placebo.
  12. It's been that way a good few years but the prices and quality are mostly at opposing ends of the spectrum and usually far from what you might expect to find in SE Asia. Exceptions of course but I've never been particularly impressed. Regular girls looking for a long term arrangement are another matter and often a better bet but the initial investment is usually higher.
  13. About 500k baht here in dodgy arab land.
  14. Hmm, fix the eyes maybe might be an alternative. Having an iPad mini probably negates anything else so far as a tab is concerned. An 84 inch UHD smart TV would be the next step up for games and such.
  15. It seems one of the biggest tourist areas is likely to remain under curfew for some time What sort of attention is being paid to the lockdown these days?
  16. Maybe hard to type wearing a saddle!
  17. I've found that a "good" android tablet costs almost as much as an iPad. A good android tablet can be as good as an iPad, different, but as good, all depends on you. I have both and have some identical apps on both, they work the same, behave the same and really it's hard to differentiate. The cheap tablets are simply junk in my opinion, bit like buying a Yugo and expecting a Mercedes, aint happening. Now the Yugo drives, stops, goes round corners and will carry your shopping probably as adequately as anything else but the user experience is different. Few people would expect it to be otherwise. Google Nexus 7 or one of the Samsung Galaxy Tabs would be my only recommendations for a tablet if you want to be happy about your purchase.
  18. I think you are going to be disappointed. Upgrading will be perhaps less than easy. You will either need a manufacturer update process usually done OTA or you would most likely have to root it (not the Aussie version) and download an update that will work with it, fraught with difficulties unless it's identical to a better known device then you might find something at xdadevlopers.com
  19. On a TG flight couple of years ago, economy section, me and another Brit get chatting, and drinking, Heineken I recall. The waitress kept them coming pretty much the whole 12 hours, not a problem. It was a fairly empty flight I recall, felt like a 2hour flight not 12.
