think_too_mut
Old question. Whatever your reasons are, it does not come cheap. Firstly, you have to set up her home and then maintain her. 50K at least, for the fridge, TV, rice cooker, some stereo. One off. 8-12K for rent, monthly. 8K+ for her to live, monthly. 5K+ for her family, monthly. 5K+ for clothes, not every month. All school fees, if applicable. 40K for the computer, one off. So, guys who think 10K or so would keep them off the street are kidding themselves. Yearly, with a reasonably modest girl, you are in for about 20-25K US$. And no guarantee she won't go astray. lopburi3
Guess nobody is going to call you a cheap Charlie. :: "50K at least, for the fridge, TV, rice cooker, some stereo. One off." 15-20k max for all above - these things are cheap here now for normal range. "8-12K for rent, monthly." 6k for 2 bedroom townhouse. "8K+ for her to live, monthly." May have to be more to keep her home but most Thai could do it on half that amount. "5K+ for her family, monthly." May or may not be a factor - not everyone pays family. "5K+ for clothes, not every month." I hope not every month - that's a lota stuff. "All school fees, if applicable." Ok. "40K for the computer, one off." Adequate computers go for 19k these days. think_too_mut
>Guess nobody is going to call you a cheap Charlie. lopburi, It amounts to 1 milion baht per year. Some people may give more...this is what she spent and does not ask for more. 1 million per yar for somebody like her...she knows it's a big money. It was my idea to get world class equipment. When she left her dwelling, having a farang behind her, she could not take neither a spoon nor or a fork with her. All had to be bought. Then, bedseehts, pillows, towels, plates, glasses... The fridge was about 18K itself..no frost, big... The TV is a Sony one...last wek it was 12K...before it was 18K... Back to the guys who think 10K per month is enough. What do they say? lopburi3
Not sure if this is for a 'minor wife' or 'girlfriend' or 'wife to be' as they would probably be in different class amounts (with the minor wife needing the most to be happy). But think most "world class" (whatever that is?) Thai would be very happy on less than half of your yearly amount; regardless.
JJsushi
Curious, with the amount you are spending on housing would it not be cheaper for you to buy her a house or a condo in the long run? I see that mortgage rates are very low and properties are not that expensive. I am very uninformed when it comes to buying property in LOS so this is a legitimate question rather than a criticism. I'd like to know as well... The place where she lives could be 15-20K US$ to buy. Probably, I'll end up buying something (in my name)... It's only 4 months or less before she can come over here and live with me...We get some accommodation on the beach...
soongmak
TTM, Are you serious? I think it can be done a lot cheaper. This is what I paid: Fridge 6,000 bhat Stereo 12,000 bhat (including vcd and mp3 player) (she already had a ricecooker and a tv) All in all, one time off 18,000 bhat. My GF had a monthly budget of 15,000 bhat - 10,000 bhat from me - 5,000 bhat from her job. these were her costs: Appartment 3,000 bhat Support of family 2,000 bhat Rent for the appartment included telephone, electricity and water; that leaves about 10,000 bhat a month for personal spending; not so bad considering the fact that she had a full time job, so no chance to get bored as well. So, guys who think 10K or so would keep them off the street are kidding themselves. I think what keeps them of the street is the right attitude, it has not so much to do with the money, although it has to be sufficient. A job keeps them of the streets as well! Yearly, with a reasonably modest girl, you are in for about 20-25K US$. TTM, you could find tons of girls in the Netherlands who would love to be your mistress! That is a shitload of money! And no guarantee she won't go astray. I agree here. The kicker for me was the telephone bill. About 6,000 bhat a month! Cheers, Soongmak
soongmak
Come to think of it, when I first went to thailand back in '98 my annual net income was about 16,000 dollars!!! Cheers, soongmak
think_too_mut
>Fridge 6,000 bhat I checked the price - it's exactly the same as in Oz. For that type of the fridge. >Stereo 12,000 bhat (including vcd and mp3 player) Sony DVD and the all the rest player, 19900 Baht. Bought it myself. >Appartment 3,000 bhat Sorry, for that kind of money, it has to be far from the SkyTrain or somewhere I would not like to go. I wanted a place where I would love to stay. What she found (and I pay) is a good value. >Support of family 2,000 bhat Me, 5K >Rent for the appartment included telephone, electricity and water; The rent is 8K but other cost boost it up to 11-12K per month. >that leaves about 10,000 bhat a month for personal spending; not so bad considering the fact that she had a full time job, so no chance to get bored as well. Good for you. I am not that lucky. >I think what keeps them of the street is the right attitude, it has not so much to do with the money, although it has to be sufficient. A job keeps them of the streets as well! You are talking about a girl that has a day job. Not the same. No job here. "Right attitude"? Certainly. When they don't have to worry about the money for the mum, they can have that attitude. >you could find tons of girls in the Netherlands who would love to be your mistress! That is a shitload of money! I know. But we won't be posting on this board if we were to think like that. Thanks for your post, great. Honestly. jasmine
Dear TTM, I can live on 1 million Baht/year, no problem. It is incredible, how a lawyer like my brother with 2 kids, wife can live on $500.00/month!!! Really, I think the amount is very generous, very nice of you. Cheers!
