maxal
Hi, What exactly is that row of bowls and coins behind the big, reclining Buddha at Wat Pho? Is it a ritual for luck or does it serve as a type of oracle? All the coins go into the bowls? Not that I'm too supersitious but what happens if you do it wrong? Thanks
pattaya127
As far as i remember, people can put satang coins in it, and you must not miss one bowl for good luck or your wishes to happen. I may be wrong onthe intent, but i have seen that in many other temples.
markle
Thai astrology, horoscopes etc is based on your birth day (rather than your birth month) so if you were born on a Monday, you would give offerings to the Buddha image representing Monday etc.
Torneyboy
They are for each day of the week to represent the day you were born. So you place coin in the one for the day you were born.
pattaya127
I think the money urns behind the reclining Buddhas are different. More than 7 and I saw ladies putting coins in each one. Sadly, my expertise on this peculiar spot has reached its limit
pattaya127
hey, hey, nevertheless I have a pix of that very spot with people dropping coins in the urns. Ever the cultural archivist PS: indeed, a lot more than 7. I can send if you wish...

pattaya127
On the pix I have, you can count 11, and see there is more behind, only their view blocked by the people. Definitely another deal than the 7 days thing.
khunsanuk
Hi, According to the missus it is for your birthday and the extra ones are for something she called "phra la hu" (I do not know what this means, and she couldn't explain it). Sanuk!
