Thanks.

As mentioned,i will still be making money from back home.So i will be able to take it easy.

One question?

Now,if you open a bank account, wont the authorities be able to see that you are making money,w/o a work permit?

One more.

I intend to start with a 3 month visa from denmark,is possible to do visa runs, every 3 months.?

>>>Now,if you open a bank account, wont the authorities be able to see that you are making money,w/o a work permit?<<<

as long as you don't rubb it in their faces they won't care. and even if you would rub it in their faces chances are that they still won't care.

start with one 3 months nonimmigrant visa (or a yearly one if you get it), but if you don't get a workpermit straightaway i would only apply for simple tourist visas during visa runs, or only go with the 30 day visas on arrival. to many nonimmigrant stamps without applying for a workpermit or not being married here does not look good in your passport.

you just have to play it by ear as the visa situation is changing a lot now. it still is not sure if the government is introducing some similar regulation as in india where people can only stay for 6 months out of one year on tourist visas.

if such a regulation comes you have to become a bit creative, maybe invest some money to form a company, or find a place where you can spend the other 6 months.

one thing though - do not use the visa services here which save people a visa run. go yourself. saves you a lot of trouble.

Thanks Fly.

Now we are getting somewhere.

I wasn't aware that you can apply for a 1 year nonimmigrant visa.

What could possibly justify that.

Visit gf,doing charity work,or"i want to live in bkk, make some money w/o work permit, and i don't want to make visaruns all the time" hehehe.....

Just trying to figure out what to tell the embassy.....

Anyway, isn't it possible to do 3 months visa runs?

Thanks again.

You should not worry. Anyone that has been half way successful back home will come with enough money to live a

comfortable life for a couple years. It is mainly the ones that come half ass planned with little money saved and more or less just getting by back home that have trouble. Most people know that moving to a country in the tropics that wages will be very low for the most part unless you are in a nitche market. There is more supply of westerners than a demand by 10 to 1.

Enjoy the money you saved and have a nice experience. If your intentions are to live a meager life because it is cheap join the few 100,000's

that will be cleaned out with the the ash and trash on the new visa laws coming soon. Once the smoke is cleared those that are decent in their field of employment should be able to make a decent income with the new asian region rise of standards of living and economies. It is most enjoyable and sure you will do fine. Good Luck

i am not a visa specialist, but you can apply for a multiple entry one valid for a year i think. also, i believe that if you have a certain amount of money you might be able to apply for a yearly nonimm, but not sure.

a tousist visa is valid for 2 months, and you can extend for another month. but as the extension costs now 1900 baht that is a rather costly additional month.

the nonimm (without the workpermit, which is a yearly one) is valid for three months, but it is not advisable to have too many of those in your passport if you do not have a workpermit or are married to a thai national.

that i seriously doubt. so far i only see people getting more poor, and personal security here is on a rapid downward trend, if you look at the crime statistics.

Hi Nickkbh,

regarding visa-questions: Besides the very good answers already given in this thread, I highly recommend the following site:

Every question (what kind of visa, what papers to bring, where to get, where to do visa-runs, what not to do (i.e.: visa runs /wo travelling)) is well documented.

I hope this helps. Good luck! :)

I got my info from the news on the asian economy, maybe just the people you hang out with. If the people where you hang out rely on the Farang, then crime may replace some of the dwindling big spenders. alot more westerners that are tight fisted with the bucks are around now days so not much money being availible plus the drug crack down they must relie on muggings instead of selling drugs. Watch your purse and gold chains.

actually, nops, the people i hang out with have generally not much to do with farang. just go the bodysnatcher thread and there you'll see some of the folks who i hang out with rather regularly.

as in most parts of thai life also in the drugworld here farang have very little impact. the crime situation has nothing whatsoever to do with "tightfisted" druggie farang.

the areas where crime is very high you will never see any farang. the areas where farang hang out are the safest areas in town due to the extremely high police presence.

very different though are most of the suburbs...

FYI....just got a new passport, but the last one was full of Non Im 'B' visas. Never a problem. It showed I was a regular business visitor to LOS. Am currently considering getting a 1 year multiple entry next ....... not that I really need it, but might be handy to have if the visa situation takes a wrong turn. :banghead:

BTW. There is talk of an ASEAN visa in the works, similar to the Euro one now in place.
