gobbledonk
Hi All, As the tree at the back of my house is currently exploding with huge, juicy mangoes (thats just for you Aussie expats who are locked in some snowbound hellhole over Xmas ), I started contemplating trying to use them in my next culinary adventure. Other than a number of variations on the Thai salad theme and a few sauce/relish concotions, the Mango doesnt seem to lend itself to cooking in the same way that peaches and apricots do, or am I missing something ? Guess I'll just have to sit in the bathtub and eat them raw

Brink15
am I missing something ? Absolutely! Here is a link to 194 recipes from FoodTV in the US: Mango I was feeling fairly lazy so I just did a quick search there. I know at least ten recipes off the top of my head from the Caribbean to Mexico using mangoes that kick ass.

gobbledonk
LOL ! Thanks, TB - I find that most things go well with alcohol. Shame I cant afford the blender - am trying to be frugal prior to the trip to Jakarta and whatever damage I do to the credit card in that metropolis. gobbledonk
Thanks, Brink - it would seem that Mango is a natural with pork or seafood : would make it a shoo-in for Thai cooking, surely ? Reading some of those recipes makes me hungry, despite having eaten less than 1 1/2 hours ago. I'm fading away to a mountain .....
gobbledonk
Take heart, Phil - at least the local womenfolk arent likely to be strutting about in revealing clothing in that sort of weather ! I reckon you'd feel a bit lost in Oz at this time of year - Xmas decorations everywhere and not so much as a snowflake across the entire continent (it has been known to snow in Tassie in December, but they dont count ). It does get boring - each day more perfect than the last. TB's suggestion re the mango cocktails is sounding more alluring by the second ::
Old Hippie
Try Mango lasi, cool drink, or ice cream, or jam...or make a juice out of them, and marinate meat in it...or simmer down to a nice sauce to pour over BBq chicken or pork...
