Flashermac
Teacher dies suddenly THE NATION Jan 5, 2004 CHIANG MAI - Police suspect heart failure caused the death of an American English teacher who died in a hotel room with a 19-year-old prostitute in Chiang Mai early yesterday. Walter Louis, 44, a lecturer at Thammasat University, was found dead in a room of Muang Thong Hotel in the city's Muang (city) district at about 3am. Police said they found heart medicine and three Viagra pills in the room. They said he had taken the girl from a go-go bar opposite the hotel. Lt-Colonel Itthirat Saenpanya of Muang police station quoted the girl as saying that the American collapsed on top of her. His body was sent to Chiang Mai Hospital for an autopsy. Flashermac
I called a friend who works at Thammasat to see if he knew the fella. He said he was in the English Linguistics Dept. As soon as I heard that, I realised I had met him myself. Ran into him less than two weeks ago, in fact. He was a quiet but good natured Texan, quite tall. This was his first term teaching in Thailand, having come here from Japan. I had no idea he had heart problems, since he looked fit as could be. But it seems he had had a valve replaced or something similar. Viagra was the last thing he should have been messing with! Even though I barely knew him, it comes as a shock. He looked younger than 44. I went to look at the Thai papers, and sure enough ... good old tasteful Thai Rot had his photo on page one, him sprawled nude on the hotel bed. I hope the poor bastard got his rocks off before he went. ::
..
Geez. You'd think an educator would know better. Everything everything warns about the dangers of taking Vitamin V with and nitrate-based heart medicene! Cheers, SD
Flashermac
I was in the States when viagra first came out, and men with heart problems were dying right and left. Thought there was enough publicity that everyone should know by now. We don't know that he used the stuff, but since he had it it seems likely. Flashermac
Thai Rot provides many more details, including his last name -- Spitz. It claims he had had a heart transplant 5 years ago in Japan, though this conflicts with what my friend told me. He had picked up a BG at Sabai beer bar, paid a 1,000 baht BF and gave the gal 1500 baht. He took one viagra tablet as soon as the got to the room. He waited for it to kick in, then climbed on her -- his heart pounding away noticably. They did the deed, and the BG thought he was finished. When he didn't get off of her, she slid out from under him and discovered that he really was done! She screamed for help from the hotel. Police said that two more viagra tablets were at the head of the bed. Good Lord, did the guy take a whole tablet and plan to use two more later in the evening? Maybe he had never used the stuff before. Poor bastard ...
gummigut
Sad event. I wonder what the publicity would have been like if the professor was of another nationality. If it would have been different if he was a Thai. Would it have been a "ladyfriend" instead of prostitute? Would it have gotten such top billing? <<burp>>
sfinkz
"Poor bastard..." _______________ Or, poor girl. Living with the wreckage could be a promising career derailed for a 19-year old. As for the good professor, it's perhaps a bit premature, his passing that is, but joins the group of mortals going out in style and leading to speculation that if he wasn't such a faithful missionary man would he have lived for another lecture? And details still sketchy as it seems two identities have been released but of course it wouldn't have gotten top billing if the unfortunate sanukker were Thai as that comes with the territory of living under the microscope and up on a pedestal, particularly for university professors. Flashermac
It actually only made page 3 of The Nation. The Post didn't even report it, since everyone knows there is no sex tourism in Thailand. (The govmt says so!) You're right about it probably being covered up if it were a Thai uni prof. His family would have been told he died of a heart attack alone and probably thinking of them with his last breath. There are definitely different standards for Thais and furriners. e.g. Years ago, when I worked at an upcountry uni, one 40-something Thai archan propositioned a 17 year old freshman girl! She squawked to the rector, so the dirty semi-old man had to be punished. His punishment? He was forced to transfer to Chiang Mai University! A Farang probably would have been forced to resign and would have a hard time getting hired elsewhere because of it.
zzzz
once i used a heart monitor during sex to determine the heart rate during orgasm. it turned out surprisingly that this rate is lower than the rate i maintain during my exercise routine. (i expect however that the rate would vary as a function of how horny you are at the time). i will have to try this test again using viagra, which only thins the blood supposedly. spike
if he was indeed an "educated man" who had a heart transplant a few years earlier, this may well have been a suicide. this may have been how he wanted to go.
