New Petchburi Pete
Ah, 'cult films' ... classics, like "Pink Flamingos," "Night of the Living Dead," "Reefer Madness," "Motel Hell (my favorite"), "Wizard of Gore," and many others ... plus the grade B 'wanna-be's' like "Raw Meat," etc. Are films of this cultural 'genre' (perhaps, lack of culture!) shown anywhere in BKK? What's your favourite cult film ? ... in you've ever been into them!
sfinkz
I sense you're weary of the commercial schlock which makes it to the cinemas? Though not of the classic cult variety, perhaps check out the lineup of the on-going Bangkok International Film Festival. www.bangkokfilm.org/
markle
I just looked at the BIFF website - couldn't get a current schedule and they couldn't get 3 movies for this week. It's a pity because the BFF was a good opportunity to see some different movies in the 'Kok. Now of course the same forces responsible for the mediocre cinema (government, business and the whole raft of hi-so faux bohemians) are now screwing up the BIFF. As for anything approaching cult movies try Waan video in Chatuchak a small stall in the gardening section. Fame video near Tha Pra Jun and Maew video in MBK. zzzz
Yeah...Pink Flamingo--a tacky, low budget, art film, made in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Polyester was also made by the same director....the fat transvestite, Divine, up there on the big silver screen--cinema at its finest. Around here (Baltimore-DC corridor), Rocky Horror Show, which also involved a transvestite, was really big several years ago. They had midnight showing on weekends and fans would dress like the movie characters and party during the movie....[There seems to be a correlation between cult films and transvestites.]
