My Lonely Planet Guide says that prostitution, which has always been tolerated, was legalized in "a few years ago." Now the media is full of crackdown stories and my gf tells me that girls are being arrested along Sukhumvit along with the occasional farang. I have also read many times that about 95% of the prostitution in Thailand is for the benefit of Thai men. Please clarify. What is the legal status of prostitution in Thailand? What isn't tolerated is drinking past 2AM. There is all some issue with girls under 20 working the bars and how much skin they show at go-gos. In reality though I suppose it has'nt made much difference in practice other than to make it even easier for the men in brown to extort their tea money. Cheers Simie.
