After shave or Eau de toilette?

Not sure whether this should be posted in this section but here goes:

Does anyone know the difference between after shave and eau de toilette?

I am led to believe one is longer lasting than the other.

I tried a 'tester' of eau de toilette yesterday in Robinsons and it smelt powerful......though i am beginning to think that all testers are more powerful than what you actually buy...

The name has to do with the dilution factor, or how much alcohol or other filler is used to cut the product. The top of the line is pure perfume, which contains the highest quantity of essential oils, somewhere about 25%. The rest of the line up is:

* eau de parfum -- 15 to 22% essential oils

* eau de toilette -- 8 to 15%

* cologne or eau de cologne -- 4%

* eau fraiche -- the most diluted version with just 1 to 3%

Aftershave is mostly alcohol to cool the skin after shaving, eau fraiche class or even lower.

Who care about the alcohol content? Well, that's what makes the scent last (or not last in this case). Alcohol is cheap and evaporates quickly, taking the smell with it. Essential oils are expensive and evaporate slowly.

I can't believe I knew most of this (I did search for the percentages)! Now you see why we do so well at The Londoner Quiz nights...

Cheers,

SD
