Pantip; I must be dreaming--

I went into Pantip today (Wed. 6/4, or 4/6 for my fellow Americans) ,sprinting as usual to the escelator to avoid the DVD touts.

I did my shopping on the 4th floor and returning down to the lower levels, I began to sense something amiss, not quite right with the place. When I got to the 2nd level, it dawned on me that I had not yet been approached by a single DVD/software tout! As I continued to wander, decending to the ground floor, it became obvious that their absence was complete, along with all the dealers and their stacks of movies. Not a single one in sight, not even hiding in the shadows and stairwells.

I remember reading a few days ago in the "POST", that some sort of international conference having to do with intellectual property or copyright was taking place at one of the larger hotels, I wonder if they staged a surprise crackdown to impress the delegates.

I sure was nice not having your arm grabbed every 5 steps.

Perhaps this is why:

In a raid aimed at verifying the effectiveness of district police activities, Registration Division police yesterday seized over 10,000 pornographic items and pirated software at Pantip Plaza and arrested four people for allegedly possessing the products with intent to sell.

Registration Division deputy commander Colonel Wisut Wanitbut led police on the raid of shops at the Phetburi Road shopping mall.

Akapan Bunsup, 19, Nattapol Chanthongdet, 21, Suradet Longwaree, 28, Pinij Chitsuramontri, 24, were arrested for possessing pornographic movies, as well as pirated movies and software.

Some 10,000 items were seized. Under a March 29 order, senior police will be punished if more than 5,000 items of pornography and pirated software are seized in a raid within their district." -The Nation

For geeks, it's definitely worth it. Panthip won't go away if they take away the porn. Software though would hurt. But I don't think they can keep it away forever.

Anyways, you should really stop buying Porn. Get broadband :)

Some of the torrent sites have over 400+ different movies uploaded EVERY day!

It's ALMOST too much :)

Sorry Guys.

Ask Nervous Dog about that stuff, he was talking about someone doing that. Or was it providing cable over ADSL. I can't remember. I don't think Broadband Cable is out there.

Just ADSL. Can't complain, it's done pretty dang good by me.

Hi!

When I left Pattaya about 10 days ago everything was available. The new IT mall had a very good software assortment although slightly more exspensive than in BKK.

regards

ALHOLK

P.S I have noticed that MBK often has DVD movies when Pnathip does not.
