wine prices in thailand?

If it depends on taxes/duties or not australian and californian wines are cheaper in Thailand compared with european or south american wines. Or rather you can get a not-so-bad wine from Australia or USA instead of a table wine from France, Italy and Spain.

how will the thai government count the taxes?

will it be taxes on import prices, or will they charge taxes on alcohol percentage?

I mean an expensive australian wine from 14 % alcohol will ad lower taxes, when they charge on alcohol instead on income price?.... then it can be good deal to buy the expensive wines? not?

Just my 2 satangs to this post

- first I have to say that a "good" wine does cost some money either in Europe or elsewhere.

- Thailand is not known as a wine-producer country so the economy tends to favorise "local-production" alcohols.

- As I am a both addicted to TG and wine I talked with some

"european restaurants owner"

the calcul for having a good quality wine in bangkok is quite simple:

- a good quality wine (either:french/chilian/australian etc)

costs between 15-30 euros

you add the transport fee, then the possible taxes and finally the profit taken by the restaurant => you undestand why it could cost so much.
