Hospital for STD check in Bangkok

Guest

Recommended Posts

I received two suggestions for a hosptal in Bangkok for getting STD tests (see the thread "HELP!" in HEALTH). One was Bumrungrad Hospital and the other was Samitivej Hospital. They were recommended to me with consideration that I have to work extensively with my clients (and alone at night and early morning) in the next few days. I would like to ask the followings.

(1) How long does it take to get the results back (doesn't it take long for cultures etc.)? I am wondering whether it is worth going to a hospital now in LOS or when I get home next week. I took zithromax 1.5g and the symptoms are gone, but want to make sure. Any expert advice on this is appreciated.

(2) What STDs can I get tested? Is there a standard package or do they test specific ones based on my symptoms? (I think I may have gonorrhea ...)

(3) How late are the two hospitals (or any other) open at night for STD testing?

(4) Do I need to make a reservation or can I walk in?

(5) Are the tests done in LOS reliable? Does it depend on the hospital?

Thanks!

As for Bumrungrad goes, you can make an appt if you wish via their website (or call).

Doctor Appointment 66 (0) 2667 1555

7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Daily

Dental Appointment 66 (0) 2667 2300

9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday

They don't have a "STD check" package that I know of. They DO have specially priced health packages, but STD checks isn't one of them (that I know of)...

But after consultation with you Dr. s/he can order what you need.

Lab results vary in time.

Old hippie--

You'll appreciate this... I have this old college friend who goes sanuking in Tijuana (he lives in LA) and one time he picked up some type of "bug" (read=std) but he said that it would go away in time... yeah, right.

Well, three weeeks later after it hurts soooo bad he goes. I mean everytime he went to piss it was like shooting flames! LOL

Anyway, the Dr. asked how long has this been going on and how he suspected he got infrected. He replied truthfully on both counts, sanuking in Tijuana and three weeks or so.

The Dr. asked him "so why didn't you come in sooner? Were you dumb enough to think it would go away on it's own?" well... uhhh.

Rather than get pills the Dr. gave him a local INJECTION shocked.gif" border="0shocked.gif" border="0shocked.gif" border="0 of sometype of strong anitbiotics... OUCH!

Both hospitals are sound. Bum is open on weekends and I believe until 9pm at night for outpatient stuff as well. I would anticipate SVJ having similar hours. Drop-in is fine especially for STDs where time is an important element in treatment.

A good MD can diagnoise what STDs you have or at least r/o based on your complaints/symptoms. And then give you proper medicine or treatment immediately rather than wait for results. Don' worry too much about turnaround time. Results will just validate a proper diagnosis.

Don't wait. Take action and good luck!

Samitivej has an infectious disease specialist. I misplaced his card but he had recently (5 months ago) returned from St Louis so you know he knows what he's talking about. The guy was good and spent the time to explain your problem, treatment and follow up required. I’m sure you could call and get an appointment with him just by asking for the Infectious Disease Doctor.

Two months ago I had a hair transplant at Bum and they required to take an HIV and Hepatitis C test about one week before the procedure. The test was done at about 7:30 PM . The HIV test took one hour while the Hepatitis C took 3 hours. I only waited around for the HIV. The cost at Bum is more than others but I was very happy with the professionalism. They require that you consult a doctor before taking lab tests, Good luck
