Death at Nana?

Hi,

"They're amazed at how western blokes can fuck and parade with girls they'd rather not even share the pavement with, to put it politely."

Probably because Thai guys (actually almost Thais for that matter) are brainwashed to think that unless a girl is very light-skinned she can't possibly be attractive.

Actually when you really look at the movies and ads it's a bit more complicated, you get some famous thai models who aren't especially fair skinned - although as a general rule in Thailand the lighter skin the better . Girls hanging around Nanaplaza have more than one feature unsightly to your basic thai.

Hi,

Agreed. I guess I should have added "tall, 'chinese or western looking'" as well.

I do think though that skin color is a huge part of whether or not a girl is considered attractive. I've seen Thai guys go all crazy about some girl who is very white, very tall, and in my eyes totally unattractive (with regards to facial features).

As long ago as the 1970s, I saw the resentment low class Thai men have towards foreigners (any kind) with their women. If you are with a BG, usually no problem -- she's taking the Farang for money. But when they realise that you are with a non-working girl, the resentment can be seen rising up.

A friend in the mid '70s was really serious about a cute little teacher, but when they would go out together some Thai butthead would always made some vulgar remark to the gal in Thai. (When the 6' 4" Farang fired back at them in Thai, they sort of cringed -- not expecting him to understand it!) Anyway, the gal finally told him that she liked him, but she couldn't go out with him any more. The insults were just too much for her. (She did later get a scholarship to the States, earn her PhD and marry an American.) I've heard similar things from other Farangs who were dating non-BGs.

I don't think this resentment is as strong as it was in the '70s, but there is still a bit of it around. A neighbour is involved in a relationship with a Thai teacher and probably will end up marrying her. Nevertheless, the gal is very careful not to let her colleagues at work know about it.

Have to agree. It usually isn't blatant though.

Can only remember one instance where my wife got insulted (by some stupid motorbike taxi guy). It is probably a good thing I did not hear the comment and only found out about it when we in our car, as I otherwise would likely have gotten in trouble. Seriously doubt I could have let it go without cursing the crap out of him. Or just telling him that the reason she is with me and not him is because he drives a motorbike and I bought her her own car :)

I think pound for pound there is more violence (on average) in western countries than Thailand. However, what pisses me off is the ferocity of the beatings that the Thai's dish out. In England for example, your average market town or small city will produce bucket loads of weekend, pissed up brawling young lads... but by and large, people don?t really get hurt. The average western grievance that warrants 'toe to toe' is usually just a 'scrap', a bloody nose and some cuts and bruises. Doesn?t really hurt. But these little bastards don?t know when to stop. If something warrants violence, then fuck it.... lets fuck him up to within inches of his life. It really riles me, how they so completely go over the top. When I lived in Samui I saw a few incidents, mainly Thai-Thai but a few Thai-fellang also. I?ve seen Thai's with chains, bottles, knives, bats, knotted rope.... and they have no problems in administrating these weapons with full affect. Why do they have to be so over the top? If someone pisses me off and the situation warrants a scrap, I have no problem in participating in a good old fashioned barny... but could I twat someone repeatedly round the head with a knotted rope/broken bottle? No way! I just wouldn?t want to fuck up your average Joe for life, over something petty. The Thais have no problem with this.

I was watching a Thai chat show with the Mrs a few nights ago and they had 3 young girls lined up with elephant man like faces - they had been at the wrong end of a bottle of acid thrown in there faces, couldn?t even make out the nose or cheekbones, one of the girls had her friggin eyes burnt out! Her eyes burnt out! There crime, as you probably guessed, was being involved in a love triangle. Bang out of order.

The guy who got beat up by the Thai scooter driver for example... lets say hypothetically the fellang walked in front of the bike, driver fell off and fellang threw him a moody look (I?m not saying he did), in this scenario WORSE ways on, it warranted the driver 'twating' the fellang with a right hook and then driving off. But Thai style dictates a full on, no holds barred kicking. I just don?t buy this notion of peaceful Thais who hold there temper until the last minute. I think they are nasty little fuckers, plain and simple. Too much evidence to support this I'm afraid.

"NO NO NO NO, SIGH, havn't you read here that Thai men dont have anything to do with bgs "

I thought LP was being ironic - refering to the belief by some that the BG's ONLY had eyes for us Farang. ("Thai man no good" :))

As you managed to extract from my ramblings :D, I wasn't talking about the average thai bloke. The fact that some Thai halfwit is making money off the Farang nightlife scene (either directly or indirectly) can also fuel resentment. Sometimes it's just about being in the wrong place at the wrong time with someone just having a bad day...........

Since we have beat this to death before, I hate to go there.
Last time you claimed that "by any metric" Thailand is more dangerous than the US. By "any metric" - your words.

I gave cites comparing official murder rates in the US and Thailand. And you know what? The murder rate in Thailand was significantly higher. Not only that, the murder rate in the US has substantially declined since the 1990s.

And then it was pointed out that Thailand's own officials acknowledge that its statistics are much less reliable than the US and substantially underreport violence (Dr. Khun Ying Pornthip). In a recent interview on Thai TV (in Thai), she joked about how Westeners who think "Thais are tolerant and peaceful" are incredibly naive. This from Thailand's most highly respected Forensic investigator.

Yeah....I think my comment was justified.

The accounts from tilac and shotover are absolutely consistent with the account of my Thai friend. My Thai friend added that the Thai guy was extremely drunk. He also heard theat the farang was a police officer in his country of origin. The Thai was, indeed, incarcerated. If the rest of the story is accurate, particularly the part about the farang being a cop, the Thai guy is likely up a very serious creek.

Manos.

Of course the farang cop, if he is one, may not be happy about everyone knowing he was in the Nana parking lot. Doing a bit of undercover work probably. So did he die? If so wouldn't it get a bit more news coverage?
