When someone is giving me an obvious sales pitch, high or low, my defences are up. Mind you I think a lot of Americans these days see it as a no-win situation so why bother? But since you raised the subject Iraq was one of the most progressive countries in the Islamic world before Saddam invaded Kuwait (which is a repressive monarchy).
