The master Thai boxer Yad- thong Sanunum is so incensed by the photo of alleged female boxers in Pattaya dressed only in knickers that he has offered a 250,000 baht reward for anyone who can give conclusive proof of its origin. The photo, which appeared recently in a national Thai language newspaper, is 10 years old but claims to depict female Thai boxers dressed inappropriately. Yadthong, who has spent the last 30 years promoting Thai boxing internationally and distinguishing it from kick boxing, argues the semi nude photo puts Pattaya in a poor light. ?This is just one example of how the resort is being presented as an immoral or corrupt place,? he said, adding that he doubted whether the picture was actually taken at a boxing tournament. Yadthong feels so strongly about the matter that he has also lodged reports with Pattaya police station and city hall. Meanwhile Pattaya police have begun a campaign to suppress public lewdness which some officials see as a growing problem. On May 24, a large group of officers were checking show bars and entertainment plazas. Most venues visited were obeying the law and the entertainers were modestly dressed. However, at Jomtien?s Las Vegas bar and restaurant, police discovered that two snooker tables were being ?manned? by ladies in somewhat skimpy attire. However, one lady was entirely naked and male punters had to pay 200 baht per game if they wanted to play snooker with her. The owner, Mrs Sanjan Aitua, aged 33, said that the bar had been open for a year and the ?play snooker with a naked lady? was an original idea to boost income and to provide novel entertainment for hot blooded males. She said she was not aware that the display was obscene and contrary to the entertainments venue act.
