Flashermac
THE NATION 27 June 2006 Skytrain extension to open next June A new stretch of the Skytrain system across the Chao Phya River will open in June next year. The route will link Taksin Bridge station to a new station in Thon Buri. The fare for the crossing will be Bt10, but no fare on the train service will exceed Bt40. Apirat Sivapornpitak, who heads Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Traffic and Transportation Department, Monday said the extension would be finished by the end of the year. "After that, we will test the system and then allow members of the public free rides," he said. Apirat said the official opening would be in June. Bangkoktraveler
This should eliminate congestion at Taksin Bridge. Like you, I can't wait for them to start and finish some of the other extensions.
Flashermac
How will it eliminate congestion? Very few Thais are going to give up their cars for any reason. Might hurt the river ferry's business though. I remember there were lines of people waiting for the ferry to cross from the Thonburi side every weekday morning. Old Hippie
2 Bht to cross by ferry I think? and 10 Bht to cross by BTS...so well, 8bht savings adds up 2 directions a day, 5-6 days a week...ok I( suppose if you are already at the max fare for thye skytrain, then more less a free crossing. Agree, Thais, like Californians will never give up their cars!
Guest lazyphil
you'll give up your car (for a weekend at least!) to climb shasta :: ....nothing like that in 'Thon Buri' i bet!
cardinalblue
We Californians have recently asked for a feasibility study from Public Works to extend the road all the way to the top of Shasta...and then everyone can enjoy the view! We don't want to discriminate against fat people, lazy people, out of shape people and most of all against the disabled. The parking structure at the top will meet code.... OCgringo
I think if we cut a couple 1000ft off the top of Shasta it will be easier to climb Drive to a parking lot , walk 100 feet to the top and plant your flag ! OC
carew66
I hate being stuck in Thonburi. Sooner the better for the BTS station.
