Refreshing angle to the increasingly monotone political debate ;) :

"Public urged to file suit against PM

ANUCHA CHAROENPO

The Lawyers Council of Thailand yesterday urged people who find the June 23 letter written by caretaker Prime Minister Thak sin Shinawatra to US President George W. Bush offensive to file a lawsuit charging Mr Thaksin with acting improperly. Dejudom Krairit, the council chairman, said every member of the public had the right to take the case to the Administrative Court if he or she felt that they were affected by the caretaker prime minister's action.

''If the court accepted the case and later ruled that Mr Thaksin was not empowered to write such a letter to the US president because he was not Thailand's sitting prime minister and his letter could cause divisions in the country, he could lose his position,'' said Mr Dejudom.

He said the council stood ready to provide legal counsel to those who were determined to take Mr Thaksin to court.

He denied that the council was politically motivated in making the suggestion and doing it in support of the political opposition or anti-Thaksin groups, especially the People's Alliance for Democracy. The move was a way to educate the public about the rule of law and the proper role of political officials, he said.

The caretaker prime minister and his ministers should be doing just the opposite for the sake of moral and ethical standards, Mr Detudom said.

He said it was improper of Mr Thaksin to have explained the country's political situation to the US president the way he did.

The lawyers council also urged the public to exercise their constitutional rights and closely monitor the exercising of power by the caretaker government."

Doesn't Thailand have a system of "checks and balances"?

Seems like if something is improper, the Thai version of the Supreme Court or Attorney General should investigate and act accordingly.

For the people to file suit??? just sounds strange to me

Well, why not?? No one is doing anything to resolve this situation....someone needs to, both leading parties are corrupt, with lots of interests....who is going to actually do anything for the good of Thailand? Only the people i guess....the politicians aren't........
