Guest
It seems like many members here live in or have occasion to visit San Francisco. I will probably be visiting SF before I get a chance to get back to Thailand, so I wanted some suggestions on Thai related sanuk available there. I'm open to any and all suggestions or comments. I've been to SF a few times so I have a basic understanding of things and ideas of what I might do, but none of them really seem that appealing. As a starting point here is the little info I have: Strip Clubs SF has some of the best strip clubs in America, from my experience. There are many asian dancers and a few Thai ones that I've come across. This is a fine activity in a pinch, but can be extremely expensive and often too businesslike. Asian Massage Parlors There are dozens of these and presumably some have Thai women. I can't see doing this, as any activity would probably be so far from the Thailand experience; again probably too impersonal and mechanical. Escorts Again, I can't see doing this, but if there were an exceptional opportunity it might be interesting. Karaoke A few years ago a Thai girl friend took me to a karaoke place that was somewhere near Japantown(?). We were there early (maybe 10pm) and not much was going on. Is this place still open? Are there times when it's a little more interesting? Are there single thai women there? What are they looking for? Are there other similar/better places? Thai Restaurants/Bars There are hundreds of Thai restaurants in the SF bay area. Presumably some of them are more fun than others (e.g. the waitresses are more playful and interactive). No, I don't plan on fondling the girls or asking for short-time, but friendly banter and a chance to confuse them with my horrible Thai language skills could be fun. Hostess Bars I know they have these for Korean and Vietnamese. I'd be surprised if the Thai community were big enough to support this. Is there a Thai analog? Wats I know there are a few Wats near SF and sometimes they have lunches or parties, but I can't see myself going there alone. It would probably make sense just to leave Thai-style sanuk in Thailand than try to look for it here. But if there's something interesting, I might follow up. liquidflux
Plain and simple, you wont find anything in the city even remotely close to what you'd find in Thailand. Do you really need to partake in those activities to enjoy yourself? Chris
cardinalblue
wait and save your money for thailand. Why wasye your dollars on something that won't as much sanook as in LOS and cost you an arma and a leg for your effort. There are some cute thai girls in SF bay area but a bad attitude comes with them as well.... cardinalblue
Guest
Do you really need to partake in those activities to enjoy yourself? Nope. I don't need to go to the movies and I don't need to watch football and I don't need to go to concerts either. I choose the best available activity for the time and place, so I like to know what my options are.
Guest
wait and save your money for thailand. Why waste your dollars on something that won't as much sanook as in LOS and cost you an arm and a leg for your effort. Everything here in the US is more expensive, I try not to compare prices that way. When traveling my time is more limited than the money, so I'm more concerned about doing something fun. If I could pay 5 times the amount here for some of the same experiences I've had there, I would do it. The problem is that you can't find it at almost any price (that I know of). There are some cute thai girls in SF bay area but a bad attitude comes with them as well.... By bad do you mean they are more like typical farang women? That's not necessarily bad to me; that's the baseline and anything towards more Thai is a bonus. Thanks for your help. I imagined I would come up empty, but had to ask. Old Hippie
Thanks for that intro Sanukdee! Well, yeah, it is god awful expensive to say the least here. There are a few places in the north bay that seem to have older Thai women as a main stay, I'll send you a PM with details. As for massage and strip clubs...ouch!! expensive, $200+ an average, maybe $150 if it's a week night, but depends where you go. Personally, I am in agreement with those who say save your money till LOS...I'll PM you with a few places though! Welcome to SFO!!
zeusmta
FD, I have been to a few MPs in SF and some can be dissappointing (older ladies, etc.). One I can reccommend is Springtime MP at 451 O'Farrell St. All the girls are reasonably young (early 20s) and most are pretty cute. $55 at the door and extras negotiated w/ the girl. Expect to pay $100 to $150 more, depending on the girl and what you're looking for. Yes you could get a *hell* of a lot more for your $ in BKK, but, unfortunately, right now we ain't in BKK. adikgede
Sam and Franks disco doesn't have to be expensive. Just take the BART to 16th and Mission, and head over to the 17 Reasons used clothes store. Buy your self some hip 'new' threads. Hey if your lucky the previous owner smoked the same brand of cigerettes as you. Done that, walk due east to Capp St., the hookers graveyard. Where a rubber or three. Short time hotel you say, no need there is always an abandoned car or two that you can use. Osha, or Oodles of Noodles on Levenworth and Geary used to be a place where Thai kids would hang out quite late at night. Last time I was in San Francisco it was mostly any kind of Euthinasia who studies at the Art Academy. There was also a new hip Thai restaraunt at Geary and Larkin, but that address is a black hole for restaraunts. I would be surprised if its still there. All the katoey that used to prance around there have been localised to that three story gender bender entertainment complex between larken and Polk next to the firehouse. All the Karaoke places I have ever been to in san Francisco seemed to cater FOB and older foriegn born asians. I have never seen one that had comfort women. If Sanuk means sex, you might be disapointed. However if sanuk makes you crave some fried cockroaches just head down Jones towards Market. Just when you thought you were going to be overcome the smell of piss and crack dealers there will be a little market on your right that sells all the goods to keep an Issan Girl in pigs heaven. You shouldn't go there after dark though because this is the heart of the Tenderloin, and as cute as those 11 year old girls with "khmer death" tatooed across thier knuckles, they usually are handled by someone in transit from juvy to the big house. Old Hippie
You pretty much nailed it dude!! As for the restaurant at Larkin and Geary, it is called Thai House Express, and is still there, still pretty good, and still really expensive!
