follies
Interesting fact from the Population Reference Bureau 2006 datasheet: As you might guess, the top 15 HIV/AIDS prevalence countries in the world are all in Africa. Leading the way is Swaziland, with 33.4 percent of the population. Fifteenth on the list (Kenya at 6.1%) is still way more than the leading non-Aftican nation (Haiti at 3.8%) ...and the one I'm sure you've all been waiting for: Thailand comes in at #27, in a tie with Ukraine at 1.4%
Guest
1.4% is a shed load of people...i wonder how many are working in P4P at any one time????? Scary indeed!
pe7e
1.4% hmmm, I bet the figure for lower Suk is a lot higher than that, it does appear to be a very low figure for a country with a huge P4P industry and poor public health care (compared to the west)
short-time
Just for comparison purposes Cambodia weighed in at 1.6%, United States: 0.6%, Canada: 0.3%, Singapore: 0.3%, both Japan and the Philippines were <0.1%. Hmmmâ?¦ maybe itâ??s time I make another visit to AC considering the above numbers and currency exchange rates? ST

Guest
A friend of mine who is a midwife in a hospital in Hua Hin told me that ONE IN FIVE children in her ward were born HIV positive... That's horrible! Maybe the official figures don't tally with reality then...even scarier.....
YimSiam
Hopefully the ward she worked in was for HIV+ mothers... Actually, even then, the perinatal transmission rates should be low-single-digit, given the available medical interventions in a country like Thailand. If it's above this, then the Thai medical system is failing children quite seriously. YimSiam
