Just when the championship seemed settled this just in: Hamilton is under investigation for causing the accident behind the safety car when Webber was following him resulting in Webber getting rammed and out of the race. If found guilty, Hamilton could lose his 10 points for the race or get a 10 place grid penalty for the upcoming race.

A number of thoughts cross my mind, mainly:

1. The Formula 1 folks are determined to keep the championship going down to the last race. Otherwise, who will be very interested in it if Hamilton already has it wrapped up?

2. Is there a bit of unspoken racism going on that is determined to keep Hamilton from winning? After all, he is sort of black and a rookie on top of it.

Alonso has joined in the criticism, and of course he has NOTHING to gain by Hamilton being stripped of his Japan win points.

p.s. Biggest question is why the hell they didn't cancel that last race, considering the weather conditions at the time!

Looking at the video how can a driver in front of two others who obviously has a problem be blamed when the idiot causing the accident even admited he was at fault for "Looking at what Hamilton was doing rather than in front of me at Weber"

Errr yeah - Hamilton's fault also that someone in the 27th row, stand C dropped a beer can.

Hamilton is being looked at for driving dangerously behind the safety car. You are supposed to keep a safe distance, yet Hamilton got along side it. That's dangerous. His reaction then made a dangerous situation for other drivers by moving the car to the edge of the track and coming to almost a standing stop-- you aren't supposed to do that either. At that instant Webber knew it was illegal to pass Hamilton under the safety car so he slammed on the brakes. Vettel the rookie was the third link in the chain and did not expect a car to stop in front of him and like the rookie in first place also made his own mistake and hit Webber. Remember that Vettel has already been found at fault and penalized for rear ending Webber.

It will be interesting to see what the stewards conclude about Hamilton. The pressure is quite the contrary. Forget Hamilton's race and age being a negative. He has received the benefit of the doubt all year long because of his nationality. Formula England even gave poor Kubica a controversial drive through penalty for having the audacity to try and overtake Hamilton in the last race! The ruling could be a lose-lose situation. Give no or little penalty and people will cry this is yet more favoritism for Hamilton. Give a bigger penalty and then it looks like the season is being rigged to be exciting rather than fair.

Here's the latest... Now let's go racing!!! :yay:

No penalty for Hamilton over Japanese Grand Prix

And Vettel has China grid penalty annulled

Formula One stewards have chosen not to penalise McLarenâ??s Lewis Hamilton after an enquiry into his driving behind the safety car in last weekendâ??s Japanese Grand Prix.

The investigation followed suggestions that erratic driving by Hamilton had been responsible for Toro Rossoâ??s Sebastian Vettel crashing into the rear of Mark Webberâ??s Red Bull. Webber and Vettel were running second and third behind Hamilton at the time and both were eliminated in the incident.

Vettel was initially blamed for the shunt, which happened in unusually wet conditions, and was given a ten-place grid penalty for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix as a result. However, stewards have now opted to replace that sanction with a reprimand.

Friday's decision means Hamilton could wrap up the 2007 driversâ?? title in China on Sunday.
