"Be warned: the new government is out to stop sex tourism"

I have been saying for years, and still maintain, that there is very little in the way of P4P in LoS that you cannot get in just about any East Asian country (Japan, Taiwan, HK, Singapore, Malaysia, China, etc).

The difference is that in those countries there is no showing. If they stop it in Pattaya like they did in Bangkok for a while then there would be no reason to prefer Thailand to say China, Philippines or Cambodia.

I read somewhere that there are 6 million visitors a year to Pattaya. That could make a pretty big dent in their tourism figures.

'Yikes! Imagine a big raid at some popular unmentionable place or maybe a big swoop on Soi 6 Pattaya complete with TV cameras and a line up of embarassed looking customers! That would change the atmosphere in a hurry'

i'm the last person to get embarrassed in that situation.

i make no secret of what i do in Thailand and that i pay for sex.

if i saw cameras i would just wave and shout out "hi,how are you guys,my names Chuckwoww'....... :grinyes:

but i just can't see how the sex scene could be eradicated.

yes you can close the main areas which all of us have visited but it would take a lot of policing and money to close down the underground places which would spring up.

and how on earth will they stamp out the FL's and Escort agencies?.

walk down Bangla in Patong towards the beach and there are so many bars which everyone knows are pick-up joints.

close every Bar and the resort is fucked very quickly.

yes many families and tour groups visit but the majority of visitors are still single Men looking for a good time.

and how much income will be lost when Cobra Gold is in Town?.

In response to whoever was rattling on about Purachai being an example of a previous conservative government. Yeah, but not really he was just a deputy prime minister very quickly after his moral crusade got too lively.

He then fell on the wrong side of favor with TRT for continuing to be a zealot :D:o This was lucky for people who like visible neon drenched nightlife districts packed with Isaan prozzies in Bangers.

He was hitting the visibility as SD mentioned this stuff is available all across Asia, but Bangkok's is REALLY in your face. Ironically that makes for a "loss of face" for the place as a nation :doah: Anyway point being that, as I said in my original post I think Thailand has little to zero idea of how they are perceived by the outside world.

If they pushed the farang scene underground I wouldn't care to much and my unpopular opinion directed at CT's comment about Pattaya dying is... good riddance. I'd love see that cess pool die it is a blight on any country, IMHO. Dump.

Draconian crackdowns and a marginalized underground sex scene, however, will not do wonders for the country's image, IMHO. I suppose they could do it like the drug war and have shoot outs with pimps and mamasans just kill them off. That would be good PR :banghead:

Wait and see... probably just more noise and nonsense at a press conference.

Cheers,

Hi,

"They give the money directly into thai hands when they are with a girl"

And that is probably the problem. The rich do not like the idea of the poor becoming more affluent.

Sanuk!

That is probably one of the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. So, the gov is goiny to stamp out the farang in your face go-gos because the rich donâ??t like the poor Issan girls getting any cash from the farangs.

Give me a f*cking break. The rich have much bigger fish in mind, you have no idea.

BANGKOK â?? Men who visit Thailand for sex, be warned: the new government is out to stop you.

That was the message when Tourism and Sports Minister Suvit Yodmani addressed a group of South African journalists in Bangkok at the weekend.

I don't think you have to worry too much. I was just responding to Evel's suggestion about hitting the demand rather than the supply. I really can't see it happening. And Pattaya will always be a special case IMO.

Okay, while keeping people poor is probably not the goal of the rich, getting richer is - and that's what 'quality tourist' is about. It's not whether people sleep with prostitutes, or wear singlets, or drink too much - it's who provides those services. For the powerful, 30 tourists getting laid by bar beer girls and freelancers on a Saturday night = bad; 30 tourists on a bus who get laid at a big fishbowl = good. The powers that be want manageable 'quality tourists' who will use corporate services, group tours, major hotels, on the beaten track - channeling the money into the hands of the rich few, rather than having it spread around. INHO, backpackers are (often, not always) the real quality tourists, because they get the money into the grassroots level economy upcountry, rather than to a couple of tour companies and hotels in the major resorts and cities. :soapbox: Okay, I'm getting down now...

And by the way, I disagree that Thailand's 'showing' has much to do with its dominance in the farang sex market - I'm of the opinion that the girls offer something a whole lot more fun and casual, and sustain the illusion like no one else... A Chinese hooker tiraak? Hmmm. I don't see it, at least not as easily.
