Guest Posted December 13, 2006 Report Share Posted December 13, 2006 Destroying prostitution in LOS is impossible, the semi-hidden places catering for Thais are seldom if ever touched, same goes for the Japanese joints...but the farang areas are in your face, internationally known about etc...no Thai i have met complains about the Japanese sex tourist, in fact most don't know it exists...but will happily slag off the farang...and they know about but rarely talk about the Thai only places...even tho' they all know about giks and mia nois...which is bordering on the endemic on society I suspect this latest bullshit is a diversionary tactic, the new govt. isn't doing squat. the middle classes are restless, so lets choose a weak target every middle class Thai abhors, yes its those horrible farang sex dens...diversions are wonderful, Bush et al. have been using them for years...it's a great political chess game....that's all, but the stakes could be upped if nothing comes from the coup...EVERY middle class Thai family, in other words those who supported the coup in BKK, hates the farang sex tourist and the places they go to..it's an easy target...they appear to feel victimised by it and ashamed...maybe they should visit Berlins famous red light zone...or Amsterdams...then maybe they would realise the global scale of this trade...but they want it gone from Thailand...well, the farang obvious bit anyway, no way will the Thai men lose their watering holes...but the wives don't know their hubbies go to those places, or choose to ignore in order to maintain the marriage...so they choose an object to displace their shit onto...that will be us then....it's always the way in every society, it happens in the UK and USA over immigration...scapegoat a minority....etc etc....diversion in politics is a useful tool, it focuses the minds on other things, whilst other shit goes on...the middle classes are too polite to confront this impotent coup and its pointless repercussions...so lets look at those horrible farang and their horrible behaviour...and everything will be a little bit addressed and respectable...of course it wont and the anxiety continues about the shit going on...but the collective concious will be sated for a while...a little while.... It is unbelievable to me how "in-yer-face" the whole scene is now compared to less than ten years ago. Yeah, some of that is due to the internet, but still. THIS is the real problem, not the fact that the scene exists. ... It is Purachai's fault and the New Social Order that made the scene visible. Walking into a bar full of naked girls is part of the fun and unfortunately Thailand is the last place in SE Asia you can do that. I don't see where the loss of face is. The poor in this country have been, and are still, exploited for many years so the rich can get richer. Why do you think there is so little development in the rural areas? That is true, even the 15yo BGs speak better english! Philipines is a worst case scenario when it comes to prostitution. Many of the young girls are sold by the parents for human traficking. I have also had good GFE in Vietnam ( Hanoi in particular),Jakarta, in Yangon (Rangoon)I fell in love Thai style one of the best girls I've ever had. And I dont think its showing either. What about Soi 33? Is that considered "in your face?" I have no problem with the government cleaning up Nana Plaza. It is high time, in my opinion. Soi Cowboy....I have mixed emotions. Patpong? Been there a long time. It will always be there. Too much money, on too many levels. If someone were to wave a magic wand tomorrow and really outlaw "prostitution," there would be an uprising in Buri Ram a week later. The massive export of the female population from Isan to the entertainment districts of Bangkok results in mega funding to those poorest provinces.
