Time up for some 30 day visa runners

Seems a little off-topic to me, but as you are the admin, I will bite ... [snip] ... ban me or ignore me, but try to follow your rules and not flame me. I have seen you issue warnings for less.

ThaiHome makes a salient point.

ThaiHome offered an opinion, presented in a clear manner, albeit not a delicate manner.

In return, he received that ad hominem attack (flame).

If the attacker were a random poster, I would simply add that name to my ignore-user list.

But this was from the forum admin, a man with thousands of helpful and insightful comments over the years.

I hope this was just a one-off, after, perhaps, a bad day at the office.

I wish for a forum that focuses on traveling to, and living in, Thailand.

Enough problems to overcome within that realm.

Alas, something odd is happening to Internet forums in recent years.

And it is spreading.

Many forums are becoming polluted with Political Correctness.

I hope Thai360 will not succumb to that.

TH,

I'm far from poor and can afford to travel to LOS 5 times a year in biz or premium economy class, but still I find your comment

We start out talking about the "independently wealthy, less than 50 not married guys" going "other places to spend their money" and when that is thoroughly shown to be BS, then all of sudden we are talking about the people living on the edge. I have as much sympathy and compassion for these people as I do the wetback toilet cleaners in the US, the big difference is one left a developed country to go to a third world (usually to get cheap sex), the other left a third world to go to a developed country (to try and have future).

unpleasant and arrogant - OK maybe it's because I'm european...

Not so correct IMO so I rephrase your sentence

ThaiHome flamed and KS offered an opinion, presented in a clear manner, albeit not a delicate manner.

Iâ??m sorry I seem to offend your European socialist tendencies....

...But then again, that is pretty European as well, isnâ??t it?

There is such a big variety of clutures and politics in Europe that your comment might not be the top choice to offend a european!

Socialist tendencies is a very funny term because there is a huge difference between having a social security network and beeing socialist. It is a good move to give the people security. The US point of view is "up to him if he is too lazy to work he won't get shit" Sounds brilliant and logic and increases the crime rate times 1000! I don't expect you to agree or to understand it because you just have read about it and never lived in such a network. Try to offend the person you don't like the next time and not an entire continent, that was probably not the smartest thing to do!

You maybe don't want us to compare you with those people in your government who produced 650,000 corps under false pretenses. What I want to say is, we can elect a government but it is up to them what they are doing. If my country all of a sudden becomes a kommunist country that wouldn't make me a kommunist, wouldn't it?

Hi,

First of all, I am far from a socialist (I certainly do not believe in government handing out money to lazy fuckers), nor do I understand why this has to be a European issue.

"I wonder why it disgusts you when I point out that living in the third world is not easy for a westerner if you donâ??t have money"

That was not what disgusts me, it was the attitude you showed. Utter contempt for anybody not 'upper' class, something which seems prevalent in a lot of your posts.

"Your disgust seems to be pretty racially biased to me. But then again, that is pretty European as well, isnâ??t it?"

Right, all Europeans hate Americans because deep down we really envy you. Riiiggghhhtt.....

"I have seen you issue warnings for less."

Right, I guess you were just lucky I was in a good mood and didn't give you a warning.

Sanuk!

See this where I get confused with this "upper class" stuff. I am not upper class by any definition I know of. I may have pretty good paying job (for which I paid over 25 years of dues), but anywhere else in the western world I would be considered simply middle class. It seems that only because I work in Thailand (for now) and make the same salary (ok, maybe a bit more) as I would working in the US, all of sudden I'm rich upper class. Makes no sense to me. I am not the one that has changed status, I think you guys moving to Thailand and working at local pay are the ones that have changed. :dunno:

But all this is way off topic, and no one has still answered my question about the independently wealthy (which I am not), over 50 guys threatening to go somewhere else to spend their money because they cannot do serial 30 visa exempt entry stamp runs and for some reason refuse to consider serial [true] visa runs to get tourist visas. Someone started to respond, but went off on the guys that working illegally or not having money to make the visa runs.

Gotta back KS up on this. im still relatively young and have little money but then again im also educated and although i enjoy the sex scene occasionally i'm not prancing around trying to get sex for the cheapest possible price or one of these wetbacks u refer to. i did the visa run thing for about 3 months of my time in thailand and i cant say i liked it.

if there are people who are willing to give up their day to sit on a friggin bus to get their stamp then so what.

ur comments are clearly derogatroy based on class racism. u accuse KS of racially based comments and then go off about him being a socialist. pull your head in.

not everyone is rich and can suddenly fly to penang or whereever the fuck they go. i went to singapore for a visa run and missed the embassy closing time by 5 minutes and the bitch behind the counter couldnt have given a shit.

it cost me a lot of money for the small salary i was on so after that i did the cambo border bus routine. I'm sorry if staying in thailand on a small salary is 'low class' but i wanted to expereince the place (and yes the sex scene) for an extended period instead of the 3 weeks i was used to.

I'D LIKE TO DEEPLY APOLOGISE TO EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD FOR NOT BEING WEALTHY ENOUGH.

We have got way off track here, due somewhat I admit to my less then tactful posting style. My original comment was based on a post by

The Grace Hotel crowd have no visas!

Problem with this crackdown is that many people here having been living quite legally on the 30 day visas -- i.e. living on their own funds. I've met people who made a pile in the Middle East and never will have to work again in their lives. Yet because they are under 50, they can't get a retirement visa. And since they don't want to get married, they can't get a marriage visa. Basically, this crackdown ends up driving them to spend their money elsewhere.

On the other hand, I do know of some bar managers (not owners) who have done the visa runs for years. But why not go after them and not simply shafting everyone else as well?

:dunno:

I responded:

My question is if these types of people you describe are willing to take a day or so every month to run to border every 30 days, why would they not be willing to fly to Penang, KL, Singapore, etc and get a visa that allows them to stay 60 days and with a 30 day extension 90 days? Or if they have truly have enough money they can fly to a western country and get 2 or 3 entry visas that allow could allow them to stay the 90 days at a time and make border runs for 6 months or more. I understand Perth easily gives a 3 entry tourist visa.

If someone has the mental wherewithal to accumulate the money to retire early, shouldnâ??t be too hard to figure this out. :drunk:

TH

.

Then Simie said:

Thaihome, i think the Thais want people to return to their home country to get tourist visas. And it does seem that Thai embassies/consulates are cracking down on people with too many stamps or tourist visas and telling them to return to their home country and get a visa there. I take your point about the money thing but don't forget some of these people seem to be living on a shoe string and the cost of a trip back to their home country every few months would screw their budget. Others are working illegally as bar managers or english teachers etc and could'nt spare the time as well as the money for regular trips home. But then that is the whole point of this particular crackdown too make it harder for farangs who the Thais suspect are probably working without a work permit or don't match up too their idea of what a "quality" tourist is?

Simie.

And immediately we were off talking about people who admit to living at what I describe as a marginal level. Other than a probably ill-advised comparison to â??wetbacksâ? please show me where I made any reference to â??low classâ? or any derogatory remark on how much people make. If calling it marginal level or saying living on the â??edgeâ? offends people, I canâ??t help that. It seems to me the only ones that would be offended would be some who is and is feeling defensive about it My point was it seems hypocritical to me to get offended when [white] people are referred to as living on the edge in a third world country on a forum where a significant amount of posts are about taking economic advantage of a [non-white] segment of Thailand.

The European crack did bring out the expected reflexive anti-American response from our dear admin, as I intended it to. Probably the beer last night made me do it.

Otherwise, if I have offended or insulted any member I apologize. As I am not real well educated and lack the skill to write eloquent dissertations that brilliantly explain my irrefutable position, sometimes I come across as rather harsh.

So, Mr Flashermac, please explain why someone willing to make monthly border runs, but cannot qualify for a retirement or marriage visa, â??who made a pile in the Middle East and never will have to work again in their livesâ? cannot simply go to another country for a couple of days every 3 months (or even 9 months if they get triple entry) and get a tourist visa?
