Generate money....haha......... laugh.gif" border="0

Practice putting your long arms into your short pockets regulary as that scenario will become the norm with the title of a Webmaster, of just about any site! Maybe ask the owner of this site, when he is not holidaying in Monaco, buying yet another Ferrari or Merc, stocking up his very extensive fine wines cellar etc etc, just from the income generated from keeping a web-site up and running. wink.gif" border="0

Hi,

You don't just build a website, sit back and rake in the money.

It isn't that easy.

This site had been up for almost 3.5 years before I made a single Baht on it. I was fortunate enough never to have had to pay for serverspace, otherwise it would have cost me money in that period.

Since we have gone pay it is generating some money, but by no means enough to live on. After paying for costs there really is not that much money left.

Up until recently this message board was actually even losing money. And although we are roughly breaking even now, I seriously doubt this board will ever generate a lot of money. Think 10's of dollars a month, not 100's and certainly not 1,000's.

Money was not the reason I started this message board, or even the website.

If you are serious though, here are some numbers:

- domainname 40$ for the first 2 years

- serverspace 20$ a month

- UBB software 200$

- your time ??$

So, to set up just a message board like this, you are looking at investing close to 500$ in the first year. And that is of course assuming you don't exceed your bandwidth maximum, which this board does every month.

Then where do you expect your income to come from? You can basically forget about banners. Affiliate programs might work, but only if you can find the right ones and people bother clicking on them. And even then you are not looking at more than say 50$ a month probably. Deduct running costs and you have about 20$ left at the end of the month.

Anyway, if you intend to develop a website with the idea of generating income from it, by all means do so. Just don't give up your day job, and expect to lose money for the first few months, or even years.

See it as a hobby, not a business.

Depends on the type of site you want to start. Serious money can be made but it is rare... ask Bruce from TSM smile.gif" border="0 He has been making some serious money with his site. He must have 100s (if not > 1000!) of members, each member paying like $50 a year, do the math...

I can't believer you're paying 40 bucks for a domain name for 2 years. YOu can get it for alot less cheaper. I was doing some research and at godaddy.com, you can buy your domain(2 years) for only 16 bucks, that's about half less than what you're paying. Plus they offer web hosting that is alot cheaper. I've heard of alot of websites that make around 5 grand a week, but it's based on porn membership. Others are based on selling products. I'm trying to figure out what I should do.

Hi,

Actually I am not paying 40$ for my domainname, I don't own it, my partner does. Not sure what registrar he uses, or how much he pays.

Not paying for serverspace either, since my partner owns his own webhosting company.

Be careful when selecting a webhoster, btw. Sure you can get "unlimited bandwidth for only 4.95$ a month", but almost all of these deals are bogus. They can not offer you unlimited bandwidth, and with a cheap host, service can be really bad. It is better to pay a bit more and be assured that things will run smoothly. Especially if your income depends on it.

"I've heard of alot of websites that make around 5 grand a week, but it's based on porn membership."

Does not really surprise me. Somehow, I don't see myself running a pornsite though.

"Others are based on selling products. I'm trying to figure out what I should do."

Find a niche, something you know a lot about (a hobby maybe?) and exploit that. There is really not much point in selling mainstream stuff on the web.

If you want to sell, it needs to be something that people want, but can't easily find.

Hi!

If anyone does have 'Big Profit Plan X' I would love to hear it...

Here is a good plan. I will give it to you for free.

Set up flashy website with an offer to show people how to make shitloads of money. Make shure you fill in the search criteria with keywords like: 'big boobs', 'young girls', bestiality, warez, mp3 etc. In this way the search engines will find it regardless of what people are looking for.

On the site post an offer to send information on how to become filthy rich to anyone that send yoy 99$.

After recieving the money, send this email:

"Set up flashy website with an offer to show people how to make shitloads of money. Make shure you fill in the search criteria with keywords like: 'big boobs', 'young girls', bestiality, warez, mp3 etc. In this way the search engines will find it regardless of what people are looking for.

On the site post an offer to send information on how to become filthy rich to anyone that sends yoy 99$."

A fringe benefit is that after a while you will recieve free lodging from the tax payers.

Because of my workplace, I have meet several very young fellas who made literaly millions from the "boom" days of the net several years ago when investors would break down your door to give you money to be part of the "next big thing" - they all had retail websites that were all purported to be the next "Amazon". So they sold at the peak, raking obsence amounts of money from assets amounting to very little - and then the bubble bursted, but these guys had got the money by that stage, only the investors lost theirs!
