chuckwoww
Holy crap! I thought these amulet guys were just complete assholes. Sorry. Not at all. Some of them used to work for the CIA and are trained to kill with one hand.
MooNoi
Actually, just found this on the net: For Sale Only 5 grey ones and it's yours!! And this: (And old article from BKK Post) Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont yesterday questioned the rationale behind the heavy commercialisation of Jatukarm Ramathep amulets as calls to cap their prices become louder. ''If you ask me if I want to buy this kind of happiness, the answer is I don't,'' Gen Surayud said in Chiang Mai during the Government House Hotline programme on radio and Channel 11 television. It is possible to control the prices of the amulets, some of which have gone up 1,000% in only a few weeks, the prime minister said, responding to a reporter's question. Massive speculation has driven up prices of the amulets, which originate in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. The history of the amulet is unclear, though Jatukarm and Ramathep were said to be rulers of the ancient Srivijaya kingdom. They are revered by some as protectors of the province which was once home to a major trading port. Gen Surayud said the trade is profit-oriented. ''There is a catch somewhere. There is always commercial interest behind everything,'' he added. The prime minister said people should be aware how many times the amulets have been resold and consider what they will use them for. In Nakhon Si Thammarat, the provincial tourism office has predicted a ''golden year'' for the local economy, giving credit to the Jatukarm Ramathep phenomenon. Last year, the tourism industry injected more than six billion baht into the province and this year the figure is set to rise sharply. Suthi Seelamai, director of the Nakhon Si Thammarat tourism, sports and leisure centre, said the boom would benefit the hospitality and service sectors the most. He said the economic outlook for the province would likely remain bright for several years to come.
thalenoi
Already seen quite a few farangs in Bangkok wearing them... twats. Same same for farangs wearing yellow "you-know-who" shirts - especially when not on a Monday! (Apologies to all farangs who have to wear one on Mondays as part of their job!) I sometimes wear a yellow T-shirt with "Singapore" in blue printed on it. Is that allowed?

YimSiam
No' date=' absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a single amulet that was gifted to you. Big difference between that and going out and buying a dozen amulets and attaching them to a 10 baht gold chain around your neck and then going around with your shirt open to your waist.[/quote'] The guy with lots of amulets has a deeper understanding of Thai culture and a greater affection for Thai people than somebody with only one measly kee-neo amulet. He is obviously a devout Buddhist and he probably has an enormous cock too and a string of mia-nois. I've had a couple girls give me small buddhas for my neck, but never kept them on. One of my regulars, however, perhaps knowing how in need I am of extra help on occasion, always safety-pins a little Buddha (probably 20 baht) inside my shirt pocket (or inside my collar, if no shirt pocket) when we go out together - I have to admit I find it quite sweet, and I do put a little superstitious value on the discreet wearing of the amulet as well (I'm the kind who throws salt, doesn't walk under ladders, etc). Perhaps as my understanding and commitment deepens, I'll go for the whole neck-and-chest gold chain ensemble... but i doubt it very much...
