I found the general "smell" in Chennai was worse than any other Indian city. The beggars seemed to be worse here, and there was a serious lack of things to see and do there compared to other cities in India. (Not a problem if you're working and not sightseeing I guess). There was garbage piled high in every street I went through, and I found the people quite rude and pushy there. (More than other places in India - noticibly).
